Julie- not getting caught =/= not breaking the law

Our society is set up so that everyone will break a law at some point.

I am sure the majority of people have broken the law at some point in time but never been caught. Every driver on the road must of gone over the speed limit at least once, and thats classed a breaking the law.

mhmm, well maybe there is, but it certainly isn't me =)

I doubt it, there isn't much you can do without breaking some law or other. Don't forget there are some archaic laws still on the statue books!

GeekLove
Getting caught breaking the law and breaking the law are two completely different things. You can still break the law without getting caught by no one but yourself.

I don't speed, or steal or anything of those sorts, but you can't forget about all the rediculous laws that people don't even realize they are breaking....don't mean to be crude, but fellatio is illegal in lots of states, I think most people have broken this law. Or smoking pot is illegal, but people do that all the time, and certainly people have been drinking before they turned 21 forever.

I've got stopped by the police once for going through a red light after it turned red; at 1 a.m. He didn't give me a ticket. There was no one in sight any where. The police was sitting beside a service station near one of those billboard signs.
But, I think we all do little things at different times that are a little bit against the law. And we feel lucky that we didn't get caught.

Geek Love is right, even Jesus broke the "law". In some parts of of the world discussing the law without being a lawyer, court or government official is a violation of the law, in America we create laws that contradict other laws instead of just taking the damned things off the books. Go figure. And babies by being born are breaking Gods law by being born into sin. So I guess we are all criminals by default, as Judas Priest said "Breakiing the Law, Breaking the law" (the singer not the apostle)

I got caught speeding on a Swiss motorway 20 years ago. Fined CHF 100. I've never been in trouble since.

President George Herbert Walker Bush, admitted to cocaine abuse in his middle 20's. Think if he were to have been caught, convicted and served a year in the big house. He would be a felon who could never have been our nations leader. The war in Iraq might not have happened. Thousands of U.S. soldiers would still be alive. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi innocents would still be with their families.

This president has also been convicted of a DWI. And yet he became Governor of Texas's, and sent many people to prison for manslaughter for DUI offense.

Everyone breaks at least one or two laws per day. There are so many laws that Americans don't always know when they are breaking them.

The current "Justice" system is set in place to mainly keep the poor, and working class people in line. For the upper class, there is no criminal punishment. Why do you think they have golf courses for white collar prisons?

In most western countries it's almost impossible for an adult to not break some law at some point in time given the vast number of laws in effect. Being caught or even being aware of breaking a law is another matter.

JD
I think some people are confused with breaking the law and being caught breaking the law. Just because a person hasn't been caught/cited/ticked for breaking the law doesn't mean they haven't parked illegally, driven at least 1mph more than the speed limit at some point, crossed the yellow line, not used their turn signal when changing lanes or making a turn, etc...

If we all were charged with what we were truly guilty of doing...would we ever get out from under the jail?

BTW, ignorance of the law is no excuse!

SDC
To some extent or another most people have broken the law, serious or not so serious. It's been done by just about everyone. I agree not getting caught and getting in trouble doesn't make you better. Just makes you a lucky person. Even cops break the law in order to in force the law. (They go through lights to go after someone, etc)
