Yes. Online stalking is considered criminal, but usually only if the online stalker has the intention of meeting persons and harming them. E-mails, messages on AIM, Yahoo, etc. are forms of stalking, but they can usually be prevented. You can report someone's activity to the police, but the issue is that it is quite hard and time-consuming to track someone's activities online, and additionally they are not pursued by law enforcement agencies unless it is alleged that they present a clear and present danger to the person who has reported to them, or to society as a whole. |

Yes, It very much is a crime! If you are being harassed or suspect someone is stalking you they will investigate and locate the perpetrator through his/her IP address. But you have to first provide sufficient evidence that you are being stalked and that there is potential harm coming you way. Basically you have to meet all the required factors of the Stalking Statute of your given state. However, in this instance you will be attempting to meet these factors electronically. |

No, but the legislation already in place covers it. |

well i don't agree, if there are no threats made then what crime has been committed, there is no law against sending someone an e-mail even if they don't want you to.
the fact is if someone decides to follow you about in real life there is very little the law can do to stop them so i would think it was just as hard on the internet.
at the end of the day the person does not have to accept your e-mails so i don't think the police or the FBI would be bothered. |

The internet is being policed and there are many Lawbreakers being watched. Common sense will tell you that this is to be expected. . I don't see a problem with that. The police need to gather information too. |

Sensible judges and magistrates would interpret the law in such a way that current legislation covers the act of stalking online. It could be viewed as terrorism, for instance. Could be FCC violation. Who knows. It's definitely wrong and illegal. |
