Is there such a thing as part time police officer and how do you become one?

I am 18 years old and I want to become an FBI agent later on in my life. I have heard that if you have had law enforcement experience then it will be easier to get in. My question is: is there such a thing as a part time police officer and if yes then how do you become one?

Yes, there is a part time police officer. Go to a police academy when your 21 years old and find a job. Then after approx. 2 years experience, apply for the FBI.

If you want to become an FBI agent, you need to get your degree (see http://www.fbijobs.gov/111.asp for more detail).

Many agencies have part-time officers (reserves); depending on the agency, it may be paid or volunteer time. You'll have to go through some academy - possibly a reduced length - to be qualified by the state.

go to your local police dept. and apply to become a reserve officer. you only work when you can. since you're 18 you'll start as a ride along. have fun.
