The U.S. 6th Court of Appeals has upheld the convictions and sentences of four former Mt. Clemens police officers who were convicted for covering up the 2002 road-rage beating of a motorist.
The decision, filed today, found that Officer Patrick Carson, Officer Robert Hey, Officers ( And Brothers) Peter Jacquemain and Robert Jacquemain were appropriately convicted and sentenced in the case, in which 24-year-old Robert Paxton, then a University of Detroit Mercy graduate student, was beaten after getting into a traffic dispute with Off duty Hey. The Mt Clemens Police Officers Beat Mr Paxton and put him in the hospital then lied about the incident to cover up the beatings. The Officers tried to bring assault charges against Paxton but another motorist saw the incident and reported the corrupt police officers. Investigations showed the Mt Clemens Police Officers lied and all were convicted and sent to prison.( A total of six officers were arrested but two of them turned state's evidence against the other four) The Mt Clemens Police Dept was disbanded due to mistreating other citizens in the Michigan city and the Sheriff Dept now patrols the area.

A federal appeals court today upheld convictions and sentences handed to former Mount Clemens police officers in connection with a 2002 beating of a 24-year-old motorist and a subsequent cover-up.
Five Mount Clemens officers went on trial in federal court in 2004 in connection with the 2002 beating of Robert Paxton following a "road rage" incident that involved an off-duty Mount Clemens officer.
A jury convicted Patrick Carson of depriving a person of his rights, conspiracy to obstruct justice and obstruction of justice. Robert Hey was convicted of obstruction of justice and perjury. Peter Jacquemain was convicted of obstruction of justice, and his brother, Robert Jacquemain, was found guilty of conspiracy to obstruct justice. A fifth officer, Daniel Gerkey, was acquitted of all charges.

It's a good reason to get rid of those officers and for that department to rethink the way it hires or trains their staff. |

Hey it's pretty simple, don't break the law and you won't have bad meetings with the police. Were these officer wrong? Yes, 100%. However what people don't want to ask is this: If the driver would have remained calm and not started in with the police officers, would this have happened? Probably not! |
