it's not really "rude" but it's a little too straight forward and since you're talking to a cop, you'd want to be as polite as possible. a response along the lines of "is there a problem, officer" would probably be more appropriate

Its not really rude, more like silly. Depending on the way you ask you could be really obvious (like he knows you were aware of what you were doing) or really dumb (you have no idea wtf is going on).

It's not rude, but what's the point? He could lie, or tell you the truth, and it wouldn't change anything. You're still pulled over.

No, not rude. I've done this, and it was never interpreted as hostile by the officer. But I am not in the business of admitting guilt to any law officer. By asking this question in a friendly way, you are saying "I have done nothing wrong".

No its not but usually you know why the cop pulled you over but if you dont thats usually the first thing a cop ask you is do you know why I pulled you over? But no its not rude and less you have an a**hole cop...

No, It's not rude. You are well within your right to know why you are being stopped. However it would not be wise to ask the officer a question he or she is about to tell you anyway.

I do not think it is rude if u seriously have no idea of the reason for being pulled over. i personally try to avoid cops as much as possible, so i rarely go more than 5 mph over the speed limit. U never know how a cop would react though!

No. But it depends on where you are when this happens. Some country's, you don't ask questions, you just answer. Others,the officer will say, "good after noon and may I see your license and registration". Then he will tell you why he pulled you over.I don't think it is rude.Because ever time I'v been stopped, I ask why. But thats just me. Good day.
