Is this stealing a car? In Texas what can you be charged with?

My friend co-signed on a car with her ex boyfriend in 2005, she tried to take her name of the car when they broke up but of course couldn't. A police detective has started calling her looking for the vehicle and she doesn't know where it is. They told her that she can be arrested for not allowing the car company from reposessing the car. Is this possible? What can she do since she doesn't know where the car is?

Well she says on her caller ID that it showed up as Dallas County, which we both thought strange because she says the place where she purchased the vehicle was in Tarrant County, also I asked her what he said his number was, because don't they usually say their name and badge number or some kind of number? She said they didn't give her one. Is there ANYTHING that can be done to her at all? How can she prove she doesn't know where the car is or does she have to?

I would bet that it's not really a cop calling her and it's a repo guy trying to scare her into giving the car up.

Repossession is a civil matter. No one gets arrested. The car gets returned, pure and simple.

That wasn't a police detective that was someone attempting to reposses the car. If she is only a co-owner, she will be ok. She needs to contact that police department and verify that she was speaking to a detective, then advise them that someone is impersonating a police officer. They won't be happy about that.
