Whilst it is wrong of your ex to contact you in any way, the police would not have your current boyfriend in prison if there was no evidence against him.
I do not think you are telling us the whole story. |

Definitely! What a loser! Take the letter he wrote to the police straight away, this is still a form of harassment towards both you and your new partner. Sort it out, he'll get the message eventually. |

I think you should turn the letter in to the police and a restraining order will be set up to keep him away from you AND your boyfriend. |

This is defamation of character and it is illegal, it is a form of harassment. You should report it to the police right away. |

Yes get a restraining order ASAP and include your current boyfriend, in prison or not, the boy friend is entitled to a restraining order against the guy too |

Give all evidence and letters to the police, be sure to make copys |

Yes, there is no doubt that this is still harassment and you could get a restraining order. It is also defamation of your character and slander. |

Call the police as this is still harassment. Your ex obviously can't take no for an answer and needs to be taught a lesson. |

This is harassment against your current boyfriend by the sound of things. I would suggest that he keeps all of the letters and any other evidence he has of your ex boyfriends behaviour to use when he makes a complaint of harassment against your ex boyfriend. |

yep, have your boyfriend get the letter to an attorney |

The problem is that harassment is a pointless legal action in the case of a young person who has no money. If your ex-spouse has money then someone might be interested in your lawsuit. Restraining Order? It is just a piece of paper if the ex comes calling with a gun or other weapon. If I was your adviser, I would advise you to drop the new boyfriend and rely on your family to help you defend yourself against the ex. The police are more interested in enforcing the traffic code. I feels like a time in your life to step back and think about the type of men you allow into your life. |

your ex is an evil b*stard.
i am not saying you current man is innocent-as carswoodie says the police don't bang people up based on words alone-the prison service is stretched enough as it is but if the tosser made and signed a statement then the police would act on it.
but this scumbag (your ex) is right out of order.
a long time ago i served a bit of bird and my padmate (cellmate) got a "dear john"-this is a letter from a loved one saying its over and perhaps its time they moved on.
it absolutely and completely destroyed him.
what you must do first and foremost is try to get as much contact with your man as possible-anything-he is on remand so there is no limit to the phonecalls he can make and the letters he can receive and it will boost his confidence no end.
secondly you must keep the letters this scroatbag is sending to your man-that is proof he only got him sent away to get back with you-so get your man to pass them to you on the next visit and then take them to the police.
give him a photo (a scan picture of the little one would definitely cheer him up).
although i have no doubt your man trusts you implicitly things do go through your mind in prison-so you make sure you keep up that contact and reassure him.
you family are correct-this is harassment-so get the proceedings started.
what goes around comes around and this toerag will get his-just be patient.
it is also worth noting the if this toerag instigated the procedure that got your man locked up then he is not supposed to contact him anyway so get those letters to your mans solicitor as well.
good luck. |

Words don't get people locked up, only actions do. You need better judgement choosing guys.
I would do the restraining order for safety and in the future don't be so stupid. |

You haven't specified what jurisdiction you're writing from. Each state maintains its own laws and those dealing w/action mostly by speech (inc. written) tread the line between crimes and constitutionally protected discourse. The persistent letter writing is the worst. Phone calls are not really criminal, but making a lot of them are. (Again, check your local statutes - your state/province website should have them online.
BTW - does he have family or a girlfriend - the stuff he could be sending may be as embarassing to him as it is annoying to you. Maybe even worse. |

I think you and your boyfriend need a restraining order against your ex. |

The police must have some sort of evidence against your new boyfriend for him to be on remand. They dont lock people up just on the say so of someone else.
Unless there is a threat of violence to you from your ex then I doubt the police will do anything about it.
Sorry your bloke is in jail though cos both myself and my husband have been in jail so I know it is not nice being apart.
Hope you get it sorted

what did he do that resorted your b/f in jail? and you must write a log of every incident that the ex has made, then go and get a solicitor and kick his *** with a harassment issue with the power of arrest, you need to do this as the law has changed, police can no longer give harassment arrests without you getting the warning slapped on him! and to help your case you must get the letter he wrote your b/f as evidence! |

yeah because you haven't done anything with him, if it was verbal it would be harassment, so i believe you should report that, even if its not considered harassment, just report it because its not true. he needs o know when to stop. He's very immature. |
