Is this the correct way to be treated when arrested. We are all juveniles.?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is this the correct way to be treated when arrested. We are all juveniles.?

I was a passenger in a car with another passenger and a driver.
We were stopped by the police after a short car chase because the car was stolen.
They quickly grabbed us and handcuffed us and one officer said make sure they stay separated from each other.
We were placed in separate vehicles and taken to the police station.
We were fingerprinted and photographed.
I was in a cell and had to use the bathroom they took me from the cell and put chains around me and walked me to the bathroom is this legal.
I already went before a judge and the case continued to February.
Will I have to go to jail?

That's the way it works when you are a criminal. Keep going down this path and you will get used to this kind of treatment. Later you may find out what actual police brutality is, or even worse, prison rape.

Sounds good to me, why were you in the stolen car? Did you assist in it's theft? Sounds like it.

El Scott
Heck yes it's legal. You were arrested out of a stolen car that was involved in a chase. If you want it your way then go to Burger King and quit breaking the law.

CFB
grand theft auto is what it is called and it sounds as if you knew it going in.

Ever thing they did sounds by the book.

free_2_bsweet
That's the procedure...so yes it's legal.

Your treatment was well within the law. Jail time, if convicted, is also within the law. Is this your first offense? If not, it depends. Time in a juvenile facility could be a real possibility. You and your friends committed a felony, endangered yourselves, the public and the officers by running (it doesn't matter how short). You could have killed someone. You stole someones expensive property. You are a thief.

If you had stolen my car, I would have given you something well outside the limits of the law.

If you go to jail, you deserve it.

Stop taking thing's that don't belong to you. Sooner or later you will run into someone who is going to shoot you.

Of course it is legal. What about it sounded illegal to you? I doubt you will go to jail. You are a juvenile and you weren't the driver. Unless the police have some reason to think you assisted in stealing the car or that you knew the car was stolen I don't think you will have to go to jail. Probably probation and a fine and community service. But, if you stole the car or assisted in it, you might get some jail time. I hope when you were arrested that you said you had no idea the car was stolen and were just riding in the car.

Problem Child
sounds like Standard procedure. You are a criminal suspect, how did you expect to be treated? What is potentially "illegal"? You where arrested for a stolen car and eluding. Not illegal. You where cuffed. Not illegal. You where driven to the police station. not illegal. You where kept separated...its not a social event...not illegal. You where cuffed leaving the cell...SOP..not illegal and you where arraigned..also very legal. So where exactly do you feel something illegal was done (other than what you and your friend did, of course)? As they say, don't do the crime if you can't do the time. If your gonna hang out with criminals, I suggest you toughen up a bit! Welcome to the big leagues. I would suggest getting used to that type of treatment if this is the lifestyle you aspire to. Hopefully this was a wake up call and you change you ways, otherwise, welcome to the system.

real world 1o1!! yes what they did sounds legal, hell it sounds nice. it could have gone alot worse and still been legal. i hope you learned that if you wanna steal a car you buy the video game. good luck in court. if it is your first offense you may not do jail time, but that all depends on your history and the mood of the judge.

sensible_man
Handcuffs are standard and required when arrested. Seperating you from the others prevents you from concocting stories. Chains while not in your cell is also procedure for protection. You were actually treated better than most. If you thought it was bad, stop breaking the law because it gets worse as you progress in criminal activities. Doubtful you will get jail unless you are a habitual offender, and then it's Juvenile detention.

Hey just accept that this is par for the course if you want to engage in criminal activity.

I remember the fuzz setting a roll of toilet paper across from my cell, and having to look at it, and know it was out of reach for use. All because I asked one to many times for toilet paper. They get a rush often times from mistreating prisoners.

Don't make a career out of deviant behavior. Get on the road to higher education so you can do something with your life. Esp if you are only 15!

You might be sent to Boys and Girls town for a few moons. You will probably have probation as well. Maybe even some time in juvenile. Just face your punishment and agree to change who you hang with, and that you will no longer be caught up in the system. Don't let this hang you. Time to grow up. Best wishes

Seems you got off fairly lightly. If you must break the law expect to be punished for it.

You say they walked you to the bathroom, what did you expect? That they carry you? The chains are for their own protection (and to some extent yours) to stop you from attacking them.

As for jail, if you're in the UK they'll probably pat you on the head and tell you not to be a naughty boy again.

When you are in custody they the police can use anyway seem fit to retrain you shackles included you commited a crime and treated no different than any criminal yes you were a passenger but the car was stolen guilt by association and you must of know this correct? As far as you going to court again and the out come is not to bad depending on your past if its your first time you will get a break to prove yourself but if you continue to invole yourself in crime you will see prison is far more worst than the little jail tour you had make good of this brother because 5 years in prison means just that...

If you were in on the whole theft thing you will be going to jail, get your home life in order before you go to court for this,, the law has done nothing wrong to you by handcuffs and chains, as far as they are concerned you are a felon and dont want to give you the chance to escape,, Maybe you will learn from this incident and lead a good and honest life,, good luck,

joe t
sounds by the book,if you dont like being treated like a crimnal dont commet crimes.the only thing i see wrong with what the cops did is they should have taken their belts and tanned your a*s before they took you to jail.but then again we are a kinder gentler corrections system

I think you were more than fairly treated...as for jail yes whether you were the driver or not..you had choice and you made the wrong one to begin with...and since you are a juvenile..I'm sure your parents are proud of you and now may have to pay for your legal costs and incarceration.

Sounds like they did everything by the book. You were in a stolen car that fled from the police. You could be going down for a year or two.

Voice of Liberty
Yes, it is legal. Depending on the outcome of the case, you could very well go to jail. If it is proven that you were involved in the stealing of the vehicle, you can be charged with Grand Larceny (may have other titles in some states) which is a felony that can carry a sentence from 1 to15 years in some jurisdictions.
