I agree with the appraisal answer. I worked doing comparitive market analysis for houses for awhile, and had to take picture of comparable homes. I got stopped many times by people wondering why I was taking a picture of their home. I stopped getting out of my car. I would park across the street, take a couple of shots, and speed off with people yelling "hey!" sometimes. |

She was probably an appraiser doing an appraisal of a house in your neighborhood. Sometimes they'll take pictures of comparable houses nearby so that market comparisons can be made. |

LOL CALM DOWN! I'm about 99% sure it's an inspector from your insurance company. They have to take photos of your home to submit to underwriting to make sure there's no severe damage.
EDIT: Okay you just bought the house five months ago then I can guarantee you it was an insurance inspector. THey have to follow up on your agent's work to make sure your agent has the house insured for the right amount of coverage and so on and so forth. |

Why don't you take a chill pill...She probably liked something she saw on your house and took a picture to show someone else. It's just a picture. You need to stop overreacting. |

Probably getting pictures for comparable houses in the area (comps) on a house for sale. Was yours sold (semi-)recently? That, or you have a nice from yard that they want to borrow ideas from (I've done this myself). |

I would be careful, but maybe an appraisal for someone who is buying a house and they needed comparable houses for report? |

She may like your paint scheme and wants it for her house |

it was nothing no worries it was a house appraiser for someone else in the neighbor hood they have to go around and get photos of houses like the one they are appraising so that they know what the house is worth in that area |

Could be from your insurance company, property appraisers office, mortgage company, anything like that. They'll commonly contract that out to an individual that just goes around taking pictures of houses. I wouldn't worry over that. Now if she came up to the door and tried to come in...that's another story lol. |

It may be that she is a realtor and is taking pics of your house for comparison purposes. THey can pull up the latest sale info for houses in the neighborhood and compare what each house has to offer to see if the sale price is good or not. But they need new pics, so they go by and take them.
We just bought a house and had a realtor come and take pics of our house to compare to a house he was trying to sell. If I hadn't been pulling up at the time, he would've just taken the pics without my permission too. Nothing you can do about it really. |

they take pics of houses in my county for tax purposes. they attach it to the county website for the tax value of the property that could be it. you could call the tax office and ask if they had anyone out doing that today |

Your house's photo is already on Google Maps like mine. You can drive up and down your street and look at each house, turn corners, etc. , all on your computer. Everything has been or will be photographed and linked to Google Maps. So if someone knows your address they can go to their compeuter and see your neighborhood and your house.
Could be for the city or town ordinance code enforcements; e.g. paint; down-spouts, etc |

Could it be that she grew up in that house as a child? I wouldnt worry too much...If she was meaning to do you or your house harm she would have been way more descreet about it, dont you think? |

You're being paranoid. Maybe she is a Realtor looking for comps. Maybe she is a home-owner who likes your shrubs and wants to mimic what you have done. Maybe she is going to protest her property taxes and want to use your house as a comparison to argue her taxes should be lower. There could be dozens of other explanations.
If she comes back, go ask her. Otherwise, let it go or you will worry yourself to death, probably over nothing. |

Ummm...maybe they were just appraising the values of the home of your neigboorhood?
When people decide to put a house on the market, they look at houses that are simular to the house they're putting up forsale, to compare the value.
Nothing to worry about! |

The same thing happened to me and it was a real estate agent and an appraiser. My insurance company also came and took pictures of my house. In my case, it was nothing to worry about but you can never take these things too lightly. Be on the lookout in case she comes back and warn your neighbors so one of you can get her license plate number. Don't worry but be very careful and cautious of your surroundings, etc. |

If you're worried, you should report it to law enforcement. There is no law that prevents people from taking pictures of the exterior of your house, however. If she's coming on your property, or taking pictures through your windows of you, you may have a tresspassing claim or an invasion of privacy claim against her.
It's likely to be nothing at all - she may like the color combination on your house and wants it to show her painters. She could be building a house and likes the architecture.
If you see her again, try to get the lisence plate # and a description of the woman snapping the pictures. |

It was probably a real estate appraiser. If someone is getting a loan or perhaps selling a home nearby then they are probably just using your home as a "comp" (comparable sale). |

Don't be too worried... I'm sure she just liked your house and wanted a picture of it. Don't be freaked out everytime you see a person with a camera! She should have asked for your permission for politeness reasons, but what she did is not illegal (unless she had a super zoom and was shooting you inside your home)... amateurs! |

I'm sure that was quite alarming but maybe her motives weren't sinister. Perhaps she likes how you landscaped and was trying to get a photo of it to develop her own plan. Perhaps it is the color of your house she admires, or your particular style door. I guess what I'm saying is she could have been taking a photo for a harmless reason. Just in case, you might want to call the local police and explain what happened, they might now if others have reported similar situations. Good luck. |

I could of been the person that evaluates the value of homes in your area for taxes, it could of been your insurance company or it could of been someone wanting to copy you land scarping or house design. |

Maybe she is someone who looked at the house before you bought it. Maybe she is a realtor making an annoucement to show what homes were recently purchased in the area. Maybe she is a home builder looking for ideas and liked the look of your house. If she comes back get the plate number, but it is probably nothing. |

are there any houses for sell around your area? Sometimes appraiser will take pictures of other comparable houses for the appraisal. I wouldn't worry about it unless she comes back. |

Call the police, and describe the van and the woman and every detail you can recall of her behavior. You might also consider a letter to the editor of your local newspaper explaining how terribly uncomfortable this has made you and asking if the paper's staff can help, not only to explain to you what the woman might have been doing, but explain to the entire community through a story in their paper exactly how unwelcome such behavior is. |
