In Washington state, as long as you are at least 16 and your parents are ok with the relationship, there's nothing the law can do. Washington is also a no-report state though, so public establishments have no right to invade on such personal matters unless it's prudent.

Whether it's wrong of him to be sleeping with you or not, it's ridiculous that they are putting him in jail, rather than forcing him to take responsibility for his actions. I could see if it was rape, but there is a little baby that weighs in the balance and it's not going away any time soon. He should be taking care of that baby and bonding with it. The baby should not have to pay for this. Odd age gap or not, the only people this is hurting are you and the baby, because now you are a teen mother and you have to worry about getting a low-paying job to support your child, find someone to watch him or her while you're at work, and completing high school. If they do this, it will be taking vital bonding time between baby and daddy away and it puts all the pressure on your shoulders, when he should be doing his part.... All the while he will be rotting in jail, just so the court can prove a point. This is supposed to be a special bonding time for the three of you and it's unethical for them to rob you of such an important time in your child's life. WHAT THEY ARE DOING SERVES NO POSITIVE PURPOSE OTHER THAN FLEXING THIER LEGAL DOMINANCE OVER YOUR LITTLE FAMILY.

What state do you live in? These people are ignorant egomaniacal morons!!! These courts complain about dead beat dads, then look what they do!!! The damage is done, so they should be making sure he steps up and does the right thing for the child, repercussions can be dealt with later.

I'M NOT SAYING WHAT YOU DID WAS RIGHT, BUT THERE IS A LITTLE BABY IN THE PICTURE NOW, AND THEY ARE NOT DEALING WITH THIS ETHICALLY AT ALL!!!

YOU NEED TO TELL THE COURT/ YOUR LAWYER THAT THIS LAW IS INTENDED TO PROTECT MINORS FROM PEDOPHILES, BUT ALL IT IS DOING IS DEFEATING ITS ENTIRE PURPOSE AND CAUSING MORE HARM THAN GOOD-SINCE NOW YOU ARE A SINGLE MOTHER WITH NO INCOME(?), AND ALL THE PRESSURE IS PUT ON YOU, WHEN HE SHOULD HAVE JUST AS MUCH INVOLVEMENT IN RAISING THE CHILD.

If I were you I would contact a lawyer, because you may be able to get him out of this on ethical grounds.

ALSO, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU GO TO THE PRESS ON THIS ONE, SO THEY KNOW THAT ARE UNDER SCRUTINY TO DO THE RIGHT THING FROM THE VERY PEOPLE WHO PAY THEM TAX DOLLARS.

The age of consent varies in different states - in some states it's 16, in Florida it's 18. Depending upon what state you're in he could be prosecuted for statutory rape.

If they do go to court to testify, I'm sure he will get out. It is probably just because you are a young couple. But I don't believe they can just take him without a fight, and I know you can get him.

its a technical question when the law was written it was meant for the 50 year old molesters but somehow they get more 18-20 year olds were they should foucus on the 50 year olds back in the 70's i had a girlfriend that was 15 almost 16 and i was 18 and the boyfriend she had after me was 21 if this law was written back then i know two for sure that would have felonies on there record and your parent dont have to press charges cause the state will.which i think stinks.i think they need to change the wording of the law

Under the law your boyfriend is a 'statutory rapist'. Maybe the two of you should have considered the ramifications before hopping into the sack.
My best suggestion is to marry the poor SOB before they cart him off. That may save him.
By the way; they should go after your parents too. What were they thinking when they let this guy impregnate you? They must want you gone real bad.

In cali they can only put your boyfriend in jail if one of your parents presses charges.

Get some legal advice, surely there was more than just that that gave them something to worry about. I definately would be getting a solicitor's advice if I were you, get your family to help you.

No Stephanie there isn't...the law does not see that you are at the appropriate age of consent...now THIS IS WHAT THE LAW THINKS... he will be charged for statutory rape, now your parents could not press charges which would tell the judge that your parents where okay with the situation, and they could make a statement in court. Your boyfriend broke the law and he is going to be punished. This is in the eyes of the law, remember but like i said, your parents not pressing charges and making a statement in court will help, could possibly get him a lesser sentence, depending on the judge. But besides that I hope the best for your baby.
