Law enforcement in small / rural towns ?

Anybody get creeped out about living in a small town or suburb , it seems the cops could get away with alot if they wanted to.

In Chicago there are so many cops and crimes they most likely not remember you or could care less and just drive by.

It is like in a small town I would be scared of the cops if I was walking down the street at night.

It is hard to explain , I dont like them , kinda creepy.

I say cmere boy , whatcha doin out dis time er da night.Why don cha hop in the back of ma cruiser.

I'am not a criminal , I guess it did come off that way.

It is just like cops can get away with alot more out there.

I would be afraid to walk down the street in Chicago.

In most small towns, the cop is not the only one with a gun.

I think it's pretty much the opposite.

In a small town everyone -- and I mean everyone -- would know if the local law was up to no good. When you're a cop in a small town, you can never go anywhere or do anything without everyone knowing who you are and seeing what you're up to. Even off duty, everyone knows who you are.

In a big city, you are one of the anonymous mass of cops. City cops, county cops, transit cops, undercover cops, FBI, DEA, etc., etc.

A city cop could pull up next to another squad car, say hello to the other cop; and, that other cop, even though he never saw the guy before, would assume everything's OK. He'd figure that cop was new on the beat, or just transferred from another precinct, etc.

In a big city, the cops are pretty much anonymous. That's where a bad one could put you in the back of their squad car and no one would notice or give him a second glance.

well its not like all cops are bad the media just plays it out that way. some rural cops are actually really nice.

Actually, its the opposite. I live in a small town (1300 people) in a small county (30,000 in the entire county). We have a Sheriff's department with only 6 deputies and our city police department has 3 officers. I've lived in Denver, Los Angeles and San Diego. I feel much safer here. Everyone knows everyone. Every citizen knows each of the city officers and knows their names. In a big city it would be unlikely that you would know whatever cop you saw on the street, much less be able to identify them later. Here, if a cop did anything wrong - the entire town would know. He would never be able to get away with it. We had a sheriff that committed a crime a couple of years ago. He got arrested and sent to jail in a neighboring county. He was the Sheriff and he didn't get away with it.

In my small town, they don't really care. Like I was walking out past curfew by like 5 hours, and 2 pulled me over, but they just talked and joked around with me. But in some bigger towns they seem to be just as negligent. So, im not quite sure.
