Rarely.
Very, very, rarely.
I've been a supervisor for the last eight years now, and I think I've taken one call like that. And I've had some *truly* exceptional officers working with me.
Most of the time we're doing things people don't like. You liked having the cop in your driveway that day, but the ten or twenty people he gave tickets to think he should rot in hell. None of them are going to call and thank his boss for him doing his job.
We cops do stupid things at times. Would never suggest otherwise. But for the most part, we bust our butts to try and make a difference in the world and never get so much as a polite nod for it. It's got to be one of the most thankless jobs I know - but I don't know anyone who got into this line of work for the thanks you get.
You've done a nice thing here. Thank you. |

Thank you very much from all of us. That word is hardly ever heard, unless someone has been given a break, and they've already finished calling you names. Much appreciated. |

No people don't almost never call and say thank you. |

Believe it or not you are a rareity. Our agency provides evaluations to send out to vicitms in every case we work but even then they are rarely returned. Makes me feel good when I get good ratings but it even makes me feel better when someone takes the extra time to feel in the comments section about how good I did!
On behalf of law enforcement everywhere we appreciate your thanks! |

There have been police officers running radar in our town on church lots and the churches have asked them to leave. That's pretty sad.
Everyone is quick to call and complain, but very few compliment. You did a very good thing. |

You have no idea how little this happens. 90% of all calls to my agency are to complain. On behalf of that Troope; Thank you. |

Wonderful you are so right I've never seen or heard of this before but it certainly could promote or encourage good feelings between the community and the police after all it is a two way street and your kindness is encouraging . I have seen professional courtesy between police and security . |

I got pulled over for a ticket by the los angeles police. The officer was really a nice guy and so I told him most of you guys are doing a fine job out there. I wasn't trying to get out of the ticket, it's just that the crazy people here in LA give them such a hard time and they are for the most part good guys just trying to enforce the law. |

Whenever I am at the c store getting coffee and donughts,iI see a cop in there, i jsutgo over and whisper,"thank you for the job you'redoing."
It usually blows their mind...! But it makes them feel good.
Cops are the guys doing the dirty work somebody has to do. |

Most of the time it's calls to complain, but it seems anymore that people like you are rare; the people who appreciate what we do. I have known and met a lot of officer's throughout my career, but have yet to meet an officer who did not have the public's best interests at heart. I just finisehed my work week a short time ago and decided to look through the questions to see what was going on and found your question. You really made my week worthwhile. So from me to you, Thanks. It's nice to know there are people like you who still care! |

I had an incident at work once, and the next day I called the officer to tell him thank you. We ended up talking the phone for almost an hour, and now I know, if I ever need him in that city, he's there. Kind of nice for the both of us. |

I do my best to be respectful to Officers but it might feel a little awkward doing that but hay maybe I should try it
PS the hardcore Irish punk band called the Dropkick Murphy's did a song about the cops in there neighborhood who they loved |

We appreciate your good words. Mostly people call to complain about petty bs. Once in a while somebody will thank you which is nice. |

It's unusual for them to get a call and have someone say thanx!
My hubby loves his job reguardless of people complaining..lol

It's nice to see someone who respects Officers as you do!
