Laws that work well and those that don't?

I am doing an assignment for one of my criminal justice classes & needed some help! I need one law that works well for law enforcement & one that does not work well. Then I need the strengths & weaknesses of each. Input from actual officers would be appreciated! Thank you so much!!!

ornery and mean
I'm not a police officer ... but here is my answer!

A law that works really well for the justice system ... the current drunk driving laws!

Strengths:

Targets a group of people that are causing hazards to other people and themselves.

"Implied consent" makes collecting evidence easy.

The officer's observations at the time of the stop can be used against the accused.

Weaknesses:

Plea bargains allow "well connected" defendants to plea to a lesser charge.

A person convicted of DWI can still drive [illegally] after their driving privileges have been suspended!

The laws that do not work well ... firearms bans!

Strengths:

Help me out here! I can not think of one!

Weaknesses:

Tilts the "balance of power" in favor of the violent criminal and away from the law abiding citizen! (Do you honestly think that a criminal planning a violent crime CARES that their weapon of choice has been banned? ... I do not!)

Gives the "underground economy" of the country another product that they are the "sole source supplier" of!

Keeps the law abiding citizen from becoming proficient in the use of (or even gaining familiarity with) the banned firearm!
