Legality of sentencing to Alcoholics Anonymous in Australia...?

I'm wondering if it's legal to sentence someone not of the Christian faith (or more explicitly, an atheist) to Alcoholics Anonymous for intoxication related offences, since AA is a largely Christian organisation and involved "submission to a higher power" as one of the 12 Steps.
I'm not an alcoholic, nor is anyone I know (thankfully). I'm just asking out of curiosity.

In the US, they make that a condition of your probation. If you don't go, your probation is revoked and you go back to jail for your original sentence.
I suspect it is similar in Australia. |
