I had strep throat when I was 15 and was given Penicillin. After 2 pills I developed hives all over my body.
My mom told me to take 2 more pills and it would get rid of my hives. I didn't know any different, I never had a reaction to anything..
I took 2 more and developed Steven's Johnson's Syndrome. My skin peeled until it bled, my finger nails fell off and my hair fell out. I wasn't taken to the doctor for 4 DAYS. My throat was so swollen that I couldn't get the vomit out and I aspirated it. The skin in the roof of my mouth slothed off like the velor in an old Chevy. I though I was going to die.
After discussing what happened with my doctor, he said that he giving me 2 more pill almost killed me and is what is causing my autoimmune inflammation, interstitial cystitis, vertigo, for damaged celia, scars and kidney problems.
My mom was hiding some very dark secrets and I think she wanted me dead. I moved away form her a few months later and she signed away her rights.
I now have an 11 year old sister to worry about.
What should I do about this?
The doctor said ANY mom with 2 kids would have KNOWN not to continue ANY medication after that type of reaction.
It's been 12 years and I have many problems from this. She is now having "issues" with my sister and wants her to come live with me. I am worried about her.

My little sister was the secret. My mom was pregnant with her and the father is the guy my sister was ingaged to. I am so not joking.
Of course her secret got our when she gave birth. She is now married to my step dad who does not want to parents a kids that isn't his. He resents my sister.

I am very sorry about your experience, i thought my mom was bad...
I would contact family services if you are concerned about your sister. One time I was talking to a psychologist and I told her about what my little sister accused my dad of doing and she called family services.

I have to disagree with the doc. Many parents think they are doing the right thing even though it may not be. Unless your mom knew from previous experience that you were allergic to penicillin, her wanting you to take it for strep throat is completely reasonable (as it is an antibiotic). It is unfortunate that you went through this traumatic and life threatening situation, but I don't think your mom was intentionally trying to kill you. That is a serious accusation and unless the doc had good reason to believe your mother had malice intent, he should never have said that to you. Personally I think the doc has an ax to grind here, and he is wrong. Most parents would trust a prescription to be OK, and wouldn't associate the reaction to the meds. Usually people have to see a pattern before recognizing the root problem. There was no pattern as your reaction was violent and immediate, one could have easily assumed the reaction had to do with the preexisting illness, not the meds.
As for your younger sister, that is an entirely seperate issue. It doesn't sound to me like your mom wishes harm or death on her. If your mom wants her at your house, and that is what your sister wants as well, so long as you're in agreement, take her in. Probably best as her dad doesn't want her around, and that isn't a healthy environment. |

Sounds like munchausen syndrome by proxy or if you say she has a secret, is your little sister aware of it? Your mother needs serious psychological help, and if you think your younger sister is in serious danger you should call the authorities. |

You have two different issues. What to do about your mom and what to do about your sister. The sister part is easy: get her out of the house, whether she comes to live with you or some other responsible person, get her out. As far as your mother goes there are a number of routes you can pursue. It may be too late to pursue anything criminally depending upon the statute of limitations. Even if it's not too late you may not wish to pursue criminal charges against a family member. At a minimum you should get yourself some counseling. |
