Over in Michigan at 1 in the morning a man was awoken by people running around his front yard and laughing. He grabbed his shotgun and ran outside, he fired a warning shot in the air and as the teen pranksters were fleeing he aimed and fired twice.
He shot a 14 year old in the chest and leg, thankfully nobody died. Prosecutors are now aiming to go after this man.

Yes he did......you have the right to protect your property.
I had a guy hit me with a bat after I trashed his mail box......now that I own a mail box I understand.....those damn things are expensive. |

I do not agree with shooting kids. But according to the article, the 14 year old was with adults. Why didn't the adults know better? Why were they condoning, and participating in, vandalism?
I hope the kid will be okay. Guy should have used a baseball bat instead and gone after the adults. |

I live in Michigan and am aware of this situation. This right here is the reason why everybody shouldn't own guns. I am a gun owner and there is no way I would just shoot someone for TP ing my house, especially a kid. It make no sense. This man should be prosecuted to the fullest. He need to serve sometime for this. He is lucky this kid did not die. I understand they were messing up his property but there is such thing a exssesive force. There is always another way to solve a problem. The only way im going to shoot someone is if they are putting myself or my family in danger. |

Are you crazy, protecting your property is one thing, but these kids were not damaging anything, thay may have been mischievious, and take alittle while to clean up, but shooting a kid in the back while trying to run away?!?!?
This is the problem with gun ownership, you have to pass a test to drive, but any idiot can buy a gun...I support ownership of guns, but you need to know how to use them and when not to!
You are legally allowed to protect your property from DANGER, was the man in any physical danger to himself, or his family, NO! He faced a mess, not armed intruders...
You can't shoot an unarmed person just for being on your property...
For those of you that support this idiot, when you own a firearm, you must learn to use it, and when you cannot. To be a responsible gun owner you need to know how and when you are allowed to use them to defend yourself, and not against unarmed vandals...Learn the law! |

No, he did not do the right thing and he needs to be punished. He had every right to defend his property, but the defense has to be proportional to the threat. If they were in his yard and his house was secure, they did not pose any threat that justified the shooting. Furthermore, they were fleeing. He needs to be prosecuted. |

If thats the entire story and he did not fear for his life then he probably did the immoral but legal thing...I dont know if the law is the same there as it is here inTexas but here a person can use deadly force on a person committing criminal mischief at nightime....Maybe one of the kids charged him or maybe he saw something in their hands...who knows.....There are always THREE sides to every story...Your side...Their side...and the Truth. |
