Minor caught stealing alcohol?

My little brother made a STUPID mistake and decided to steal a bottle of alcohol from a supermarket. He is only 17 years old. They have video evidence of it. My question is does anyone know what the criminal punishment will be (or could be) when he goes to court for it? They said that a minor stealing alcohol is considered a felony! But I want to know like if he will go to juvy and for how long, if he has to pay a fine and how much and how long he will have to be on probation for?

The cop that cited him told us It IS a felony in california. It was just some stupid kind of alcohol. And trust me I know what needs to be done to my dumba$$ brother, I want to know what WILL happen to him!

Your post is rather limited but based on it I don't see this being a felony. Here is a website forum that answers questions from accused shoplifters. You can get some informed answers there without judgment

It's NOT a felony - he will be fined and put on probation. You will get uniformed people telling you his record is sealed when he turns 18 but this is NOT true, he needs to get a lawyer to have that done, so I suggest getting a lawyer so this crime doesn't follow him around the rest of his life.

They should make him drink it all and then some until he passes out then in the morning when he has the headache from hell, have him sit in the middle of a brass band for 3 hours of straight music, enjoyment.
