I need help i am nervous an not sure of what is going to happen. I got a cell phone my ex girlfriends name. I signed up for ATT but never got a response until a week later so in the mean time i signed up for Verizon and got a confirmation of activation. I got both in the mail and I never used the one but I used the other. I then ported that number to sprint to because the phone i had was having problems. I foolishly assumed verizon would cancel the line when i ported the number, but i was wrong. In the end the total debt was about 1000 from the ATT and Verizon cell phones(the sprint was in good standing when she found out). She pressed charges and now I charged with 3 counts of Misdemeanor first degree of identity theft and 3 counts of theft of services (its all under the identity theft). I admitted guilt to the officer because I was not going to lie about it and the officer said since i never committed a crime before he recommend me for a program for first time offenders, I am just nervous of going to jail because i offered to repay all the damages back and now I am going to have a record. Do you think my chances of going to jail are high? I dunno what to do because I was accepted to University of Pennsylvania and I am suppose to start in the summer and I am so nervous because i feel i threw my life away over a dumb phone : ( i just want a second chance!!!

This happened to my daughter! You will not go to jail. But you want to keep it at a misdemeanor. Why? University. Same as my daughter. They are only trying to scare you. We hired an attorney, a good friend of ours, and he got it reduced to noise obstruction, for $150.00. We are lucky we have a lawyer friend. They are only going to fine you, and you will have a misdemeanor on your record. Which I don't believe it's identity theft. You would be surprised how many people have been in the same situation.
