Hi.
I am thinking of applying for the MoD Police. However the only thing that doesn't really appeal to me is the possibility of working away from home. I live in Portsmouth and I know there is a MoD Police base here. After my training period, will I be able to choose where I am based or will I be based anywhere in the UK?
Also, I originally wanted to apply for the regular Police Force but Hampshire Constabulary aren't recruiting "any earlier than 2010". Is it harder to get into the MoD Police than the regular Police?

It is hard yes, and you can't really choose your posting, you get posted wherever they want /need you, this could be guarding a tiny little base somewhere in the middle of nowhere being very very bored with long periods of long inactivity, or it could be over in Afghanistan looking after the base security and training the police over there. Or you could be posted to a base to look after the pissed soldiers and staff out on the town etc etc. The MOD police has the same sort of requisites as the civi police except from the firearms training you do, this requires more vetting and psycho profiling etc. Go onto the MOD police website, it explains a lot. Be advised though that it can be a very boring job, and you have to endure very repetitive days and long periods of inactivity whilst maintaining vigilance. You could try doing the Military Police or Normal Police somewhere close by and developing your career that way. Hope this helps. |

Whilst performing in some part a civil police role, in the same manner as any of Britain's local police forces, the MoDPlod concentration is focused on providing a major armed guarding role at defence sites requiring a high level of security, including the guarding of Britain's nuclear deterrent. Their standards are very high.
You could be sent to any of the over 100 MoD sites in the country, so if you're a stay at home body it isn't for you. |
