My boss and I can't get along.?

I have transferred for a year now and my boss and I cannot go along. They won't transfer me back. What should I do. He picks on me, I defend myself verbally.

Keep your mouth shut and do your job. Good jobs are to hard to find, and judging by the fact that you haven't quit yet it must be a good job. |

If you like your job, want to keep it and do not want to up-root your entire life because the so-called "management" of your compnay treats his employee like crap, step up, go to HR and complain. If HR does nothing, go to HR's boss, if they do nothing, see a lawyer and maybe never have to work again. Don't quit. You're just showing him that he's won. |

Remember that it's your responsibility to get along with your boss. I know it's hard. If he is violating something, make sure you do like the other person said and document everything.
Read up on labor laws for your area.
If he's violating anything, report him.
Use tact.
Don't give them a reason to fire you. |

I partially agree with Cullen: it's wise to strictly document everything said per vatim. However, I'm leery of you contacting HR. In my studies of law enforcement over the past 5 years, it seems many law enforcement officers do not blindly trust their HR department.
Many law enforcement officers hold just as much distrust and disregard with HR in their departments as they do Internal Affairs, citing they're "cheerleaders for administration" or "head hunters out for near retirees".
After I've seen it for myself in HR interviews in police departments, I tend to agree with the guys in badge and uniform: HR doesn't merit total trust.
You're safer to take your hard copy evidence to a lawyer or EEOC office and let them handle your claim; next to news reporters, such legal eagles make law enforcement administrators nervous. |

File a complaint. That will get their attention. If it doesn't, then file a lawsuit for mental anguish. Now THAT will get their attention. I can't guarantee you'll have a job, though... |

you should document everything that happens and then see your Human Resources Dept. What your boss is doing is creating a Hostile work environment. every place I have worked has told me that Hostile Work Environment is covered under harassment laws. nothing is done by Human Resources, then continue to document and file a complaint with employment commission in your state. and get a good lawyer |

I think you already know the answer, though you didn't ask a question. You can find a different job or you can stay and hope there will be a change in management. You do have to remember that you are not the boss. Do what you are assigned, be pleasant and go home and start over the next day. Mind your own business and the work rules. I don't know what it means when you say he picks on you and you defend yourself verbally. You should maintain a professional atmosphere. Your employer may think you are a troublemaker or a disruption to the work site. |

You must document the picking, explain to your boss that you think the picking is making your job a hostile working envioroment. If it doesn't stop...remember you must document this..you must go to your HR department, explain to HR that you feel you are working in a hostile envioroment, show them your documentation, and request a transfer on that basis. If you do not have documentation they will not take you seriously, also they might try to fire you, if you have documentatiuon and they do fire you you have 2 bases to sue to fight for your job back.
And secondly the easiest way out is to find a new job.
