My boyfriend is a cop and is now on patrol im having a hard time dealing with my fears for his safety.?

I think your fears are perfectly normal, but you are going to have to find a way to deal with them, which, to your credit, you realize.

There are lots of support groups for partners of law enforcement officers. It isn't just the danger factor that can be difficult--the long hours and stress that your partner brings home can be tough to deal with, too.

Do some online searches, and you will probably find some good groups to connect with. There are probably Yahoo! groups, as well as others.

Good luck to you both--he is lucky to have a partner who cares about both of you.

I dated a girl that was a fire fighter and another that wanted to be a cop but hadn't finished classes and stuff yet. You will worry about it because its normal and you love them.

You have to realize that you don't end up in a job like that unless its really what you want to do. They know the risks and if they can accept it then you will have to also.

deal with it or tell him you can`t and let him go find somebody eles....you will just hold him back and make it unsafe for him

There is always that fear of the unknown (A FEAR)
I had worked patrol from 68-73. Never fired a weapon, drew it a couple of times, as a safety measure on Burglary in progress calls.
I had worked within the warrant and narcotics services, had two shoot outs and 2 deaths, no officers were wounded in 3 years. I left that job as thrill factor became a risk factor.
You are more likely to be killed as a gang member then an officer.
More likely to be killed in a car accident then as an officer on duty.
In reality, who actually knows when their time is over?

I am a Police Officer and have been son for 16 yrs and counting with the Los Angeles Police Dept. It really does not matter what agency you work for. The job he choose and the one I am currently employed by is a dangerous one. Officer's are the front line of defense in any City in the nation. You just have to have faith in his training and ability that if presented with a dangerous situation his training and expierence will overcome anything that might come his way. Here in L.A. things are a lot different than other places. Here there is no respect for the Police. Just keep the faith, don't leave anything un said and just know that at the end of the day he will come home safe to you and your future family.

being a cop is like being an airline pilot??. wow. This is why some cops grow to hate civilians.

anyway, trust his ability, training, instinct and his partners to be there when he needs them. It's a long career so learn to cope with it. If not, it'll be a short marriage.

Police work isn't as dangerous as they make it seem on TV. It's kind of like being an airline pilot. Most pilots go their whole careers without experiencing an engine failure or other disaster. Most cops go their whole careers without firing their weapon or being placed in imminent mortal danger.
