My dog bit my neighbor, Can he sue?

My dog bit my neighbor, Can he sue?

Okay here's what happened. My two friends, both my age, came to my house to play wii fit. My dog had a bad liking to this one friend and she had just gotten this new toy and was very territorial. She started growling, so due to aggressiveness, I thought it was pretty smart to take the toy away. The guys tried to help me. Eventually she started freaking out and barking like mad. She went under the bed and after a while I was pretty nervous she was acting so wild, but the guys thought no harm would come to it, and for a minute we stopped. Then my dog dashed from out under the bed and snapped at my friends arm. It poked a whole right through his shirt and he was bleeding pretty bad. We put like four different creams on it and gave him a bandage to stop the bleeding, and he seemed pretty cool about it, we even started laughing about the whole thing. But we had received a call from his mom, sounding pretty mad and my mom explained she had taken all her shots a few weeks ago. Still, can she sue?

Th bite wasn't that severe, the size of a quarter really. again just a couple of bit marks on his skin that were bleeding, and he didn't look like he was in pain, but his mom was freaked out by all means.

Sadly, anyone can sue. However, the good news is that you have a clear case. The dog was pursued into the bedroom. Thus the dog was not the agressor, simply defending itself in what it thought was a threat.

As stupid as it sounds, should you be sued, I advise a counter suit for harrassment of your dog. That will probably result in an agreement of both parties dropping the suits.
Good Luck

Dogs don't have much rights, nor their owners in these cases. Dogs typically bite out of fear. The instinct for survival in animals, when they suddenly see somene up close to them. They are usually only defending themselves.Your only chance would be to prove the person antagonized your pet somehow. Or was negligent in regard to your warnings

Yes his mom can sue your mother. However it was an accident in your home. And the dog might just be checked for diseases and quarantined for a little while. And if they sue they will just get medical bill costs.

Sure, anyone can sue about just about anything. I like what the faux suggests...pay for the medical care and be sure to apologize like mad. Pain and suffering would be all that's left and that may not fly, unless your friend was totally freaked.

You guys should pay for the medical bills...anything above that is frivolous. It'd be right for you to offer to cover the shot and doctor visit...maybe stitches if need be.

Did you try google first?

Has your dog ever bitten anyone before?

Or is it a so-called "vicious dog" like a rot, pit, or something like that?

Also, have you had any reason before to know it might bite someone?

If you let me know, I can give you a good idea of what your chances are.

It's a daushand....i know sounds silly now, and thats what the guys thought, but no she had never bit anyone severly before. i had never seen her act that way. im telling you she just didn't like him. she bit me once, a tiny cut on my finger that bleed for five seconds again over a toy, but yeah...if that helps.

yes they can. its neglect to allow a dog that could bite someone around people. HOWEVER, if yall offer to pay for MD bills for an ER visit or offer the dogs shot records, usually, friends wont sue. my neighbors dog bite my kid, and although i was furious, I would never sue over an accident. make sure yall call to check on the person who was bit, that tends to help situations like this...
