My friend thinks jail is the only way he won't hurt himself....help?

A friend of mine is severely depressed. He is unemployed and about to be evicted from his apartment. He doesn't have anywhere to turn (I live 1000 miles away).

He thinks a temporary stay in a minimum security prison is the only thing that will stop him from hurting himself. Why he thinks this i have no idea....i guess his reasoning is 3 hots and a cot, no worries for a little bit.

He is thinking of going to a major store and clanging a bunch of pots and pans together to make noise. He said psych facility is out of the question because he has no insurance and it will cost him an arm & a leg.

So, if he goes to a store like he says and makes a bunch of noise, what is most likely to happen? He wants to be locked up, no psych facility.

He has no criminal record so obviously he thinks the above is a victimless way to go...to get himself safe till he gets back on his feet. I guess the way he sees it, being unemployed, broke, homeless and alone is an intolerable alternative.

Tell your crazy friend to go to a govt facility hospital like a county hospital...ex: NUMC (Nassau County Medical Center) If he goes to the emergency and starts yelling witha big bang that he wants to kill himself they will keep him, the doctors and nurses will take care and the govt will pay the share...its the least thing they can do to help a poor soul rather than going to jail and get killed by all those hardened criminals they wont only kill but theyll rape his virgin AXX that should make him go more crazy and get the AIDS Virus then die, so tell him this and warn him before he goes to HELL.

go to the nearest church and ask the pastor for some temporary help. Chances are there will be someone who can and will help him. If it's not rent money he may get a clean safe place to sleep and hot meals until he's on his feet. Just going out into the community and asking for help is one way of getting it. Going into a store and clanging some pots around or making noise will not get him locked up in a prison. It may get him locked up in the county jail which can be a terrible experience as it is and would be just an overnight thing.
Has he tried talking to his landlord and explaining his situation? Chances are the landlord will be understanding. You have to present yourself as a clean, respectful person and you will be treated as such.

Lost on planet earth

It is getting very tough for the poor. I am one myself. There are programs however age can be a factor. For example Job Corps is a good place to get some training and have some reward money after graduation. Free room and board there.

I have a close friend here in Oklahoma City who is in there 40s and struggling. She was abuse by her ex-husband and suffers knee and back pain. They are about to lose there recently purchased trailer due to money problems. Back on New Years they were rear ended and there new used car was totaled. They didn't have enough insurance and have creditors after them.

I myself am struggling from prior Work injuries and hoping to get help from disability. I know if i don't get help soon I too will have other problems. Such as getting to the store and helping my girl friend and her teen daughter.

The rich are so greedy now a days and seem to only care about them selves. If i was them with all these millions of jobless out here I would find an island to hide when they all start getting hungry.

Have your friend go to some local churches and ask for help. He may have to move to another town that has help available. Better not to have criminal records.Thou it does seem criminals get more help then the poor unemployment. It is very bad out here.
