You could have one done moments after this happened on your own.... i don't see why you waited 5 days to do a rape kit. Mine was done with in minutes of walking into the hospital and telling them I was raped.

Are you saying the police waited five days to use a rape kit? You would want to report that to internal affairs or the D.A. for investigation. It is unlikely that DNA would still be on you after five days.

You say your detectives are looking over this. Aren't they the ones who should answer your questions?

1. That is INCREDIBLY irresponsible.
2. The evidence and chance to report a rape is most likely gone
3. I understand why you feel uncomfortable, but women (and men, but men are raped less) for some reason refuse to report a rape because they feel everyone will think they are lying. I don't get this. Police men will hunt this freak down if you say he raped you, and will lock him up for at least a decade, due to the fact multiple charges can be filed by a good enough DA.

I'm sorry but I must agree with Katherine.
Standard procedure when you report a rape is to take you to a hospital to be checked both to make sure you have no other injuries and to collect evidence. There would be little reason to do a rape kit after 5 days. Any evidence would be suspect. The only plausible reason not to have you examined immediately would be if you declined.

Why did you wait five days ? Is it because you were sodomised ? Rape is rape end of story. Yes it is humiliating and very belittling, but never let the perpetrator go. That is where they get their power trip from thinking that they can do it again because no one is going to say anything.

The shock caused by rape leads most of it's victims to behaving in ways don't make sense to non-victims. Feelings of disbelief, denial, and shame take over rationale thoughts of seeking medical and legal care. This is especially true of victims who know there assailants.
