My son is getting violent what do I do?

My step son has been my best friend since he was 3.he is 14 now and in a relationship with another 14 year old girl. just one day ago he came in from school and my wife asked him to do his home work and take a shower,he said he wasnt going to do a $%%&&^^ thing until he called his girlfriend.My wife immediatly tried to take his cell phone ,HESLAPPED HER IN THE FACE.She called out for me becauseshe couldnt defend herself,and I am disabled.I immediatly recieved 2 blows to the neck I responded with a can of whip a$$. I told my wife i was calling the police before this got any further.she begged me not to so I didnt ,I still remember when he was 3 too and my fishing buddy they grow up so fast.I love him too,all kids.
we live in Tn and his real dads mother told him (OUR SON)
that if I tried to spank him for him to call the police and have me charged w/assault.by the way his girl friend was texting him till 1 am . hence confiscation of the cell phone
some one know anything about tn law?

what you should do is to show him who's boss and obviously that would be you. go with him to juvenile for one day, and hopefully he'll understand that if he continues his bad behavior he'll be sent there. what you should also do is meet his girlfriend and get to meet her enough where you know her behavior and etc. my hypothesis includes that his girlfriends behavior is rubbing off on him. you should seriously talk to him and let him know how you feel and maybe he'll let you know what's troubling him. don't send him to jail yet, if you do he'll hate you for the rest of his life, all teenagers go through some changes, i suggest you wait, unless it gets more and more violent.

heh, I remember that my father used to whip me with his belt all the times, and I grew up being an excellent person and respecting all people. Nowadays you cannot do that because of blah blah blah, but I am pretty sure you can call the police and they will let you know what to do, and by the way....don't pay any penny of his cell phone's bill until he knows who's the boss.

He needs to be taught the meaning of respect.If you can't or won't do it take him to the Police dept.You are already his target for abuse and it will get worse,if not fatal.Your fishing freind is now an immediate danget to you and your wife.Not calling the Police was a very real MISTAKE.If you were to inquire at his School you would probably find an established pattern of disruptiveness and disrespect to Teaching Staff and other Students.Act TODAY and save your Stepson and yourself from future legal troubles.Parenting is a difficult and thankless job.Do the right thing and stick to it.Good Luck!

If he becomes violent again, CALL THE POLICE. You have no other choice. I know it's hard to do that to your own child, because I had to do the same thing to my son. But it will get worse and worse if you don't do something about it NOW. Or send him to live with Grandmother for awhile if she thinks he is such a treasure. You have the right not to live in fear or be abused by this boy. And he needs to learn that he is not allowed to treat people that way.

It's probably hormonal, but you must put a stop to it RIGHT NOW or he will become even bolder as time goes on and you or his stepmother will end up seriously injured. Have him arrested and get the court to get him the help he so obviously needs. Don't put up with that behavior or you will have to deal with it forever.

i am one who beleives in old school,whip his a.. first of all boys,men, should never hit a lady!! more especially their mom, i would try to talk to this kid first tell him what he is doing wont work ,then take away the things that are most important to him,make him do choresaround the house, if this doent work,call Dr. Phil

I would be concerned about drug and alcohol use, look for the signs, changes in behaviour, degraded school and work performance, new friends, alienation from family, stealing money, changes in sleep habits, look for alcohol/drug paraphernalia and if he does have a substance abuse problem get your son medical help.

okay well im 14 also, but i strongly agree with you about the calling the police thing. she(his girlfriend) may in some way motivated him if he was for some reason complaining about you two (everyone complains about their parents). i would call them the next time he hurts either of you! thats terrible. he may also be abusive to his girlfriend no matter how much it sounds like he likes her. you may be doing her a favor too if you call the police. im sorry you have to deal with this.

you responded with a can of whupass? maybe he is learning violent responses from home? is violent "entertainment" allowed in your home, such as violent movies, you tube, hockey or cage fighting ? hes either influenced by the wrong friends, or at home. get him help before he ends up in jail

im 14^^....so wait....ur his step dad...but he likes you! maybe it has somthing to do with the divorce or somthing....umm belive it or not theres probebly lots of s**t going on u have no idea about....soo give him space and hopefully hell talk to you when hes ready (and no i dont think what he did was ok)

go to counseling--get test kits and invite the girlfriend and her entire family over for a nice sunday meal. Protect your wife.
