if you're in the UK, more than likely only a small fine if its his first offence, but you'll probably also get a parenting order- ie sent to parenting classes to learn how to control your son |

Depends - on a few things doesn't it!
Did you let him drive it knowing that insurance was not covering him to drive - if you did then expect a hefty fine!
If he took it without your consent then it is classed as theft and he should get done for it! Including driving without insurance!
The question is to open and has too many possibilities - need all the facts |

Well it all depends on the judge, we can only guess at what will be the outcome to this, after all you were a bit foolish in letting your son drive without insurance, its people like him that make insuring a vehicle so expensive these days, what would he have done if he knocked someone over or had a crash ? then who's going to pay for the damage, so let this be a lesson to you,
this time however you are going to have to pay for your foolishness and not some innocent person or motorist.. |

It seems obvious to me that you have already admitted to the offence of permitting your son to drive without insurance. You will get a fine and points on your licence no big deal until you renew your insurance they look upon it that its them your doing out of business |

You are more to blame than your son. Your older and should have more sense. In UK you have permitted the offence of "permit no insurance". The only way to save your self from a fine, in the £100s, and points is to say you didnt give him permission to drive. You get away he gets a criminal record. Take more notice whats he doing. |

If he had your permission then you will be prosecuted for aiding and abetting.
If he didn't have your permission then it means he will be prosecuted for TWOC, no insurance e.t.c.
Either way, one or both of you will be prosecuted. |

did he have your permission, if so then you'll probably get a fine depending on if this was a first offence.
if he didn't have your permission then he could be done for taking and driving away without consent and he'll be in trouble not you,
don't cover for him if he did take it without your consent, in the long run he'll learn a valuable life lesson with out anyone getting hurt. |

You and your son could get a lengthly ban as they're trying to get legitimate cars off the road to ease congestion, not encourage non insured potential killers to clog them up. |

Points on your licence and/or a fine. Possibly even a ban, but the good news is that you won't get sent down. If your son was driving with your consent and knowledge then you are guilty as charged. If he was driving without your consent then the police can have him for theft and leave you out of it. It all depends how much trouble you want to get your son in I guess. If they charge him with taking a vehicle without consent there is always the risk he will go to prison. Not a decison I would like to make to be honest. |

you cant think very much of your son, he could have been killed, or even worse, he could have killed some innocent. if he took it without your permission, then its his fault, but if u knew he had it then you should have done the right thing and got the insurance. how long did u actually think you would get away with it... |

Lessons on bringing up children by the sounds of it, would you like it if someone crashed into you that wasn't insured. Very immature to say the least. You deserve everything you get. |

You will get a scare, but that's ok, it could have been worse. He may have killed someone, destroyed anothers life or his own. You may get a fine or some other order, but you all live to tell the tale. I hope everyone has learned a lesson. |

Depends on where you live. Did you give your son permission to drive your car? Do you have insurance on your car if you drive it or not at all? Sometimes if you show up to court with proof of insurance you can get away with a proof of correction -- again, it all depends on your jurisdiction -- each court is different. Otherwise you get the fine which is usually a lot more than what the insurance would have cost.
Don't pay attention to those well-meaning people who say you can blame it on your son if he's guilty and get off the hook. I'm not quite clear on why you have to go to court --- did they send you personally a notice of a court date? Didn't you son receive a ticket for not having insurance on the car he's driving? Isn't he a minor? We need more specifics in order to answer your question, including where you reside. |
