My car Broke down Sunday Night(monday morning) around 0100 and i had to tow it off the free in north hollywood. Cost me 150 bucks to tow it to my friends house. i called the QuarterDeck around 0245 after towing my car and realizing im not gonna be back in time for work. Basically told them hey my car brokedown im not gonna be there for my 0730 muster. TAxi Cab would have ran me over 200 dollars to take from NOrth Hollywood to san diego so i decided to take the train the next morning. Missed the first train(honestly i wasnt thinking clearly) and made it to the second train at 1130, Its a 3 hour and 45min train ride so i got back to base at 1615.
I should them proof, with my Tow reciept and my train ticket that i am in fact not lying.. But still my DRB went to **** and they wanna mast me. Right now im still in shock as to how far this has gone and am basically deciding to go to Court martial over this instead of Mast. Am i makin the right decision?

im not on a ship, im on holds in san diego 32nd street. I mean i know this is such a minor case and seriously im surprised it went to DRB. now im goin to mast, but the reason i wanted to take it to court martial is the fact that it is so minor that they should just drop it. ESPECIALLY since im innocent. i honestly didnt want to spend 180bucks for towing and train ticket to get back to base and just have a overall terrible day..
-what are the odds of them dropping it if i request court martial?

Take the article 15 captains mast. It would be foolish to ask for a summary court marshall. The captain can and will make a judgement on your excuse. Be sure you have your ducks in a row. You would be wise to try to talk your Division Chief?Officer into letting it go this time.
A summary court marshall would be a big mistake. It is the captain that direct that a court marshall be convened and appoints the officer that will condut it. A court marshall can hand out a stiffer sentence than an article 15. Having said that whatever punishment the summary court marshall hands out can be commuted by the commanding officer.
Next time spend the $200 bucks and get back on time. |

Take the mast- most likely it'll result in a fine & extra duty. 1 day UA isn't normally a big deal unless you miss ships movement or are a chronic UA. Talk to your Chief or leading PO |

Nope ! At Mast you could have shown them your proof and maybe just maybe got a slap on the hand (extra duty for a weekend or something minor), now your bucking the system and just might get harsh treatment in return. 30 days confinement and a strip taken over extra duty and a butt chewing ! Right decision ? |

CAPTAINS MAST
for a mast, they have to investigate. just show the investigator your receipt and explain what happened. you could be found at fault since you missed that train, but if you called the boat and told them then you sort of were accounted for.
like others said, most you'll get is a little extra duty. take the mast...court martial is for BIG stuff that you KNOW you aren't guilty of. |
