Typically, if you want to visit an inmate, you need to be on thier list of approved visitors, which will require you to pass a background check.

However to get on the list of approved visitors you need to speak to the inmate and tell them you want to be placed on thier visting list. The inmate will then have to speak to his/her caseworker and have them mail the paperwork to you; once you get the paperwork you fill it out mail it back and wait to find out if you've been approved or not.
