I retired after 35+ years as a police officer. My wife, who died last year, was addicted to casino gambling. Although she was very lucky at times, she also lost a lot of money. She blew about $25,000 in a mutual fund before I caught on. I guess I should have paid closer attention but you tend to trust the person you love and I never would have divorced her for this. I just would have taken steps to protect our finances better.

Nope. I'm a former cop, current prosecutor, and my mother is a drug addict. I am not naive enough to believe that most addicts can change. I wish you luck, but I would not sign up for that heartache.

Never. We deal with it on a daily basis at work, that would be incredibly stressfull to also go home and deal with it.

You must be special to have an offcier willing to risk that. (That is NOT sarcasm)

i care very deeply for a person with an addiction. i did not know at first, i found out about three weeks ago. now that i know i have two options. continue to date him knowing he has this problem, or say to myself "i dont need these issues in my life"...

i think the biggest thing is to go into a relationship know the other person has something such as an addiction, then you can decide whether or not it is the right time in your life to get involved with that person (as well as their "baggage")

knowing the man i care for has an addiction does scare me. he is fighting to stay clean right now and is doing a good job, i am extremely proud of him. though i can not have contact with him for a year because of his addiction, i have no plans of removing him from my heart. addictions are bad but they dont neccisarily make a person bad.

to answer your question, if i truly care for a person, and i can see that in their heart they are willing to fight to do right by themselves, then yes, i have to say that i would have a relationship with someone with an addiction.

It depends if i knew the person was getting help or fixing the problem i might consider. It also depends on the person if they're out of control probably not, if its a minor problem and fixable it might be okay. I hope your working on your addiction and everythings going good for you!

I have never met anyone who was not addicted to something, but some addictions are more socially acceptable than others. Everyone is screwed up in one way or another. The only perfect people are on TV. Love who you love, but do not accept abuse.

Yes, he loved you for what he sees in you. Just because you have a problem it does not make you a bad person. Anyone can make a change for the good. If you care enough for him you will get help for your problem and never look back and he should also never look back, just look ahead.....There is always room for better times.

Never!!! My dad had a drinking problem and I vowed I'd rather be single forever than put up with all the garbage that addicts and alcholics do to their loved ones. The guilt trips and manipulation are just too much.

Yes, if they were clean/sober for at least 5 years and working a recovery program. Otherwise, hell no.

i would date someone with an addiction (depending on the addiction and how long they had had it) but i would not marry someone with an addiction until i was certain they were clear of it and had been for several years.

no way......and i cant even beleive you would waste your time girl.......thats is lovw to let ur self love a person like that...i beleive you can do better...there are better in this world.......
