You should have went and retrieved your money then returned to pay for the merchandise.
The "employee" is probably the one who called the police.
Do you really expect anyone to honestly believe your story?

I worked part time as undercover store security on and off the past 30 years... I've heard the same story 50-60 times, or some variation of the same story.

It won't float. You got caught. Your excuse will piss off a judge.

You can't leave a store with property or merchandise that has not been paid for, pediod.

In many states, the secreting or hiding store property is prima facia evidence of intent to commit theft.

Who are you going to sue?? Your mommy and daddy for raising such a dumbass??

from the stores perspective you put their merchandise in your backpack and then left the store. why didn't you leave the stuff on the counter and then go get your money and come back.

You have no grounds to sue. At best this is a misunderstanding if the judge feels that way. More than likely you are looking at shoplifting charges, because that is what you did.

No one is required to believe your nonsensical story, and no one will. Instead, your actions will be seen as evidence of your unlawful intent. Come up with a better story. Even if someone believed you it doesn't matter because the store did not give permission to take their property based on your promise to return and pay.

I hear that all the time. Someone comes in with nothing, tries leaving with an LCD TV without paying. When they're stopped, they claim they already paid but the receipt is out in the car and they just need to go get it. Some rookie dip actually bought that, and of course, the guy never came back to prove he had a receipt. (On the plus side, the store didn't lose a TV since it was still at the door.)

Did you know that in some states, secreting merchandise is the ONLY necessary act to prove intent of theft? Strange how you're SO coordinated that you can organize equipment inside your shirt, your pockets, your backpack, but so DISorganized that you forget your money AND leave it in a car where anyone can break in and steal it. Normal people place the merchandise on the counter and tell the clerk that they'll be back with the money to pay for it.

Go ahead and sue. Any judge or jury is going to laugh at you just as I'm doing right now.

You did steal it... you are guilty of shoplifting... now way around it... If you watched you do what you said you did... you would arrest you I am sure...

You will lose this in court everyday of the week, get an attorney and she if he or she can help you..

Its time to grow up and use your head... just think things through a little more and you will not get in hot water like this....

By the way you law suit will be thrown out of court... don't waist anyone time trying... it just sounds silly...
