That would be the highest priority call, however, the answer depends on how far away the police are when the call comes in.

Depends on location. Most often a patrolman who is nearest to you is contacted. It can be as little as 3 minutes, or more.

Depends on where you live, how far away the police are from your house, how many police are on duty at the time, what they are all involved with when the call comes in....
In other words, call the police, but be prepared to defend yourself until they arrive. A big dog, a loud alarm system, and / or a small shotgun would increase your chances of staying alive.

you should take what ever means you are comfortable with to protect yourself. i have a protection trained dog, any dog will help if nothing else they will sound alarm. have also taken self defense classes. also own several firearms. and taken classes in there uses.

buy yourself a gun. Never depend on the police. Here in my town. the night officer go to bed at 1 am and is just on call the rest of the night

Grab your gun and phone and barricade yourself in your room and then call 911.

Tell the police to identify themselves when they come b/c you're armed.

If the burglar comes in to your room, don't think twice, shoot him dead.

depending on the nearest patrol officer, you may be dead if you do not take any measures to protect yourself. If possible, barricade yourself inside your room to stall for time. Also, having some sort of protection, firearm, mace, attack dog, claymore, etc will help. Be sure you are properly trained with all protective measures before using them, otherwise you may find yourself being killed with your own protection.

You would probably be dead, unless you could block yourself into a room and the perpetrator could not gain admittance to it.

You got it mixed up a bit.
The call to the police comes after you have killed the intruder,why wait for someone else to kill the bad guy when the opportunity is right there in front of you? A call to the cops is just "paperwork" after the fact.
