On police, has anyone actually seen one recently?

I live on a main road in a large town just outside of London, and the only police man/woman i've seen for about five years is the guy who comes to visit his mum on saturdays, so he doesn't count. Has anyone else seen police patrolling the street where they live recently?

try going out with a policeman for a day...you would have a nasty surprise...political correctness from their superiors has caused excess administration and time wasted. Courts are failing to give support for their valuable time.

Yes i live in a town in buckinghamshire and every time i go out i see a police car

?
yeah there are loads of police where i live patroling the streets all the time, and wheni called them and they arrived in about 5 minutes too, but i dont live in london so i dont suppose it makes any difference to you lol.

Every time I look in the mirror! (well, police woman). And I was out on my bicycle all day today patrolling the neighbourhood that I work in. I broke up a fight between two swans and stopped a dog from chasing a swan that he obviously wanted to eat for his dinner!!!

BUT, you have a point and they are not visible enough. BUT, they are under resourced and if out on foot patrol or on a bicycle, cannot respond the emergency situations unless they are very close by.

So, more officers and more on foot and bicycle patrols PLUS those in cars.

If you have issues, contact your local police - and ask if you have neighbourhood police officers? Ask how you can meet them and discuss with them any concerns you do have. Perhaps you are really lucky and live in an area that has no problems????

One other point, I recently spoke to a local resident who has a 6 foot hedge at the front of his house and electronic gates. His living room is at the rear of the house. He told me that he NEVER sees police officers in his road. I politely told him that I had been down there MANY times and that it was impossible for him to see me anyway!!

So, there are more than two sides to every story!

nope

Yes, there was one investigating missing plant pots from a house about a half mile down the road in the village... nothing much happens here.... although it does get rather exciting when a police helicopter swoops overhead!

Blimey, you're lucky. 1) It means you don't get Police cars going past your house on nee-nors all day. 2) It probably means you have a very low crime rate in your area. Don't knock it. Anyway, to answer your question, yes, we see them quite regularly round here. Dodgy area. :o)

I have, but i am a police man so i know where to look.
to be perfectly honest, the reason why you don't as many police today, as you may have done in the last 10 years is the way the government are telling the police service to conduct themselves. They have given us so much red tape to cut through, that even the simplest task takes hours to complete. If i arrest a shoplifter at 8am in the morning, and say that the suspect is under 17, wants a solicitor and needs some medication, this will extend what should be a simple 20 minute interview into 6-10 hours spend battling through red tape and crap in the police station custody suite. And should the suspect no make admissions to the crime, as police officers we now are not allowed to charge a suspect with the crown prosecution service reviewing every case where the suspect hasn't admitted the offence, as they will not run the case if it's not 99% certain that they can win the case.
As well as this, the government have also given us stop search forms which need to be filled out when we speak to someone, which can taken 5 minutes to complete, and if you count on the fact that a police officer can speak to hundreds of persons everyday, that's alot of time spent doing nothing useful.
And on top of that, the government have told us that every crime that's called into the station must be investigated, even if the matter is clearly not a crime under UK law....we still have to investigate the matter to crime the offence as NO OFFENCE.
With a high workload and probably 20% less police officers, it's a tall order to also patrol the streets and do our duty to the public that pays their taxes for a police service.
Until the government gets a spine and gives the police back some sort of discretion when dealing with crime, and gives officers a decent pay rise to retain officers, the matter will stay the same. All i can say is that 90% of police officers are hard working and want to get back on the streets and serve the public, so don't think you don't see us cause we off have donuts and coffee..........although this could be the reason for 20 minutes per day.....we all need a break once in a while. ; )
