If I knew more about the type and the situation of the speeding I could help more. Not all cameras have film in them because the plods cannot afford the development costs. Some just flash you as a warning, others can be challenged on being sited correctly, number of accidents on that stretch of road.
5 or more fatal accidents/ serious injuries along that road must have occurred within the preceding 3 years to justify siting a camera. If not you can challenge it.
The Dutch have the same problem with speed cameras, one ploy they use, is to register the car in another EU country.
Mother lives in France, register the car at her address. All non UK speeding tickets are unenforceable. It may not be legal......

Under UK law they have 14 days to notify you (NIP) of any alleged offence - however, there are certain "opt outs". If you were driving a hire car, or a car not registered in your name this deadline doesnt apply.

It also doesnt apply if there is any other reason why it took longer than 14 days, such as you recently bought the vehicle or you changed address (and the DVLA database wasnt correct).

If it's their laziness or negligence then the charge will not stick (although you should still complete the s172 request else you will be prosecuted for failing to furnish)

To recap - The first NIP in the chain needs to be received by the addressee within 14 days of the offence - it must be sent 1st class post (or better) and no extra time is allowed for bank holidays etc

They then have 6 months from the date of the offence to lay the information with the court (to produce a summons)

No, if the cops don't send a letter to you within 14 days from the date that the speeding offence occurred, it is past their statutory legal time period to notify you in writing of their intention to prosecute you, for such an offence. Which means they can't issue you with a fine or put any points on your licence. I know this because I drive for a living as a HGV driver. Hope this information helps you out.

I was told by the police that it is up to 6 months and after that time then you cannot be prosecuted.I do know for a fact that a person i know was sent a speeding fine 3 months after the offence took place.

You should get something in 2 weeks then you've got 28 days to fill form saying you were the driver

It depends on where you live. The law is going to be different in every state and within different cities in your state. Go to the library and look up the information.

No its not true,you should be informed within 14 days,,
its called "notice of intended prosecution"if you don't get it within 14 days it is deemed "not served" if you do get it you have 28 days to respond and pay other wise the fine goes up

In England it is 14 days.

It's called an NIP, notice of intended prosecution.
