Intoxication is not a valid defense, and will not be considered. |

So it happened so why would you have imaginary thoughts that his age would save him or that being drunk is an excuse. After 18 things dramatically change, the world takes on an adult reality called sink or swim. Oh my gosh! Do you mean the laws pertain to little old me???? Dam straight fellow, your mom tryed to warn you! |

He is an adult & he chose to drink. |

He must have been sent to a Young Offender Institution. http://www.hmprisonservice.gov.uk/adviceandsupport/prison_life/youngoffenders/
Clearly this was more than a scrap or fisticuffs. He must have inflicted some harm on the other fellow. If being drunk excused such behaviour, then many of us might be seriously tempted to drink heavily and go and sort out some people we know. It's quite possible that the Court felt that he needed to take a long hard look at himself and sort himself out, something which will be done in the YOI. |

wait...he went to prison for 8 weeks, or he hasn't gone yet? Was he sentenced already? your question doesn't really make much sense... |

Being drunk is not likely to get him off whatever sentence he deserves. Quite the contrary in fact.
The law is shifting so that the age of the transgressor is becoming less of a 'let-off'. People are tired of badly behaved youths and girls. |

17+ your friend was all ready for prison. i dont think you do 8 weeks in prison maybe county, the farm ranch or whatever but not prison. prison is only there if your doing 1 year or more. county is 1 year or less. i think they wanted to screw him a new one if you know what im saying. imagine if he was in a third world country probaly shot on sight or man handled man haha |

I my view being drunk just makes matters worse |

19 is a legal adult
being drunk was stupid and no excuse for wrong doing!
he should take responsibility, admit he was wrong, and make a plan to fix whatever he broke...then the judge will consider giving him another chance... |

uh, no. Jail time for him. |

unless somebody tied him down and forced the drink down his throat then being drunk is no defence-if he cannot handle the booze he should stick to the soft drinks.
hope he learns a valuable lesson from all this. |

nope. drunk or not he broke the law. being drunk is no defense in law because hes the one who made himself drink. He has to take responsibility for his actions and serve his time. |

what does the other guy look like? 8 weeks is quite a sentence. but no, being 19 and drunk makes it worse, not better for your friend... especially if it's in the US since he can't drink yet. anyway it's two months, his sentence would be over before he had a chance to appeal. advise him not to beat the crap out of people anymore. |

no and yes... being 19 will help but being drunk will not. |

i don't think "fighting" is a crime
what was he charged with/convicted of? assault? affray? GBH? Drunk & Disorderly? |

That's a pretty harsh sentence for a fight. You must live in an oppressive country. |
