Pay speeding ticket? Or fight it?
Find answers to your legal question.

Pay speeding ticket? Or fight it?

I got a ticket for speeding in New Jersey. My license is in Indiana.
It was a steep ticket - $200 for 70MPH in a 50MPH.

My record is otherwise CLEAN.
If I plead guilty and pay this one... will my insurance go up? For how long?

A bunch of NJ Lawyers have written to me to take care of this for me.

Should I dispute it and get it reduced?

I heard there's some website to go to where there's all the help I could want?

I want to do what's EASIEST. But not if doing that will cost me huge money.

Years ago... New Jersey wouldn't have been reporting to Indiana anyway... just their neighboring states.... so it wouldn't have ended up as points on my license anyway. Is it still the case? Or will my insurance company find out about it anyway?

Well Now What
First off the officer has a radar of sorts to back up his ticket and that radar takes a photo of the car and its license plate with the speed on the photo that can be printed out
.
And to fight it is kind of well out of the ordinary
.
The price of the lawyer will be far above the ticket pay price of $200.00
In their fee the court cost and all other fees that that lawyer will tack on
.
And you already have the points added to your record of driving
.
So all that you would be getting removed is the fine unless you want to have the court expunge your driving record then that would be another couple of bucks it is called
.
And if you have not had any ticket in the last 3 years don't worry about it with the driving habits of Americans being in a hurry to get there day and night
.
It is only normal just remember that on the express way how many times has the flow of traffic been under the speed limit
.
NONE
NEVER
CRAZY to EVEN think SUCH a THOUGHT
.

May be better served to just pay the ticket..it;s up to you

Your insurance company will find out about it. New Jersey will report it to Indiana. Paying the fine will be cheaper than paying a lawyer to dispute the ticket. Yes, your insurance will likely go up a bit. Your cheapest way out is still to pay the ticket.

You should ask the courts if you are allowed to take a driving school class. This will prevent your insurance from going up and points from being placed on your license. Just make sure you get the courts permission before doing so. If you don’t the courts will reject your driving school certificate. Good luck!

I live in Delaware and I know that if I get a ticket, my insurance company has no idea that I got one, until I need to change something in my policy. Then they will check on your driving record again. But I would go to court and plead probation before justice. This way you won't get that many fines and it won't show up on your record unless you get caught speeding again within a certian amount of time. At least thats how it is here in Delaware. Don't bother with those stupid lawyers, they will charge you an arm and a leg for something that you can do yourself!

I used to be a State Farm Insurance Agent. I assure you that your insurance company will find out about the ticket. There are only five states that do not share reporting and unfortunately neither of the states involved are on that list. If you can get it removed from your record or reduced you should. 20 MPH over the limit is a major infraction. The officer who wrote the ticket had the option to give you a reckless driving charge on the spot. Your insurance company will not only see that you received a ticket but they will be able to see how many miles over the limit you were.

~Side note~ The DMV will not just automatically report this ticket to your insurance company. Every insurance company has different guidelines for pulling your record. Some automatically pull your record at renewal (6 month or annual depending on state and insurance company guidelines) some carriers check when you make a change to your policy, and some may check if you pay late. If you get this reduced or removed from your record prior to a record check they will have no way of knowing you recieved the ticket.

ask for differed disposition and ask for defensive driving it will be erased from your record upon completion of the class

1. yes, your insurance will find out.
2. it will be reported to indiana
3. whether i would fight it or not would depend upon your schedule (i'm assuming that you don't live in NJ. you'd have to come back to court here), what you're being charged with (is it a 2 or 4 pt. speeding ticket), etc. in NJ, if you plea down, you get hit with a 400 dollar surcharge for that...that you must pay on the spot.

the above poster is correct. if you aren't hit with the pts, your insurance co. won't find out. however, it might or might not be worth your while moneywise to fight it. it depends on the above factors, and also your insurance rates.

Fight it, the worst thing that can happen is that you will be found guilty and have to pay just like you would if you plead guilty. The upside is that the government will have to set a bench trial for you and bring in the states witness (the LEO that ticketed you). Not only does this cost them more in time and money, it ties the LEO up in court that day preventing him from being on the street writing even more tickets.

Edit: you see 247's post? You get a $400 surcharge for entering a plea. How unconstitutional is that? Now you see why we must take our government back and return it to the people. Don't let any of these Kangaroo courts or LEO stand in the way either my friend. We surround them. There are way more of us than there are them!!!!
