Penalties for driving without insurance and tax and giving police wrong address?

i was stopped tonight and found to be driving without insurance and tax as i was extremely frightened to give my real address - as my partner will go mad - i lied to the police about my address! i know when i go to the police station with my mot - which i have - that i will have to admit everything does anyone know what kind of fine/points i will get and what happens about the lie, if i own up to it in the morning i was not cautioned so i understand that nothing i said can be used

Are you in BIG trouble,
you can say goodbye to hundreds of pounds, and get free points about 8. That's just for starters, your insurance will also run into hundreds.

galena
you'll get a fine for tax and points for insurance.depends what address you gave. you can kinda blag address, say you've recently moved, parents or temp address. but they might find out because your car should be reg in your name at your present adress.

bearing in mind that the desk people aren't police officers, you could try the frightened card.

good luck!

I was arrested for stupidly driving a car with no licence or insurance i was given 6 points on my future licence and a £150 fine But my soliciter said i was very lucky the likelyhood is you will get points and a fine and probably a police caution for lying to the police probably perverting the course of justice

you will get anything from 6 points up for no insurance and a fine, for no tax you'll have to pay back tax up until it was last taxed .... as for lying about where you live you might be lucky as they only usually only push for the greater offence

no tax is a civil offence and will result in a fine and no points. no insurance is a criminal offence and the penalties will be alot harsher possibly a ban.as for lying it all depends how the magistrate views the insurance offence you should be ok from a ban if this is your encounter with the the law but the fine will be pretty steep.good luck

but is your address not on your license.which as you say MOT then I gather you are in the UK..........depending on the local cops, doubt much will be done.............but without FAIL you must tell them the Truth first thing...................maybe say that you just gave out your old address from habit BUT here sir here is my new one.

Oh and cautioning does not mean a whole hell of a lot in the UK period and trust me anything you said to the police CAN be used, laws are different in the UK to the USA.............

Take care and sort out your details insurance etc as you WILL have to show this or they will not let you drive home from the police station,.

Ok, this is for UK: If this is your first offence, then you will probably get a ban and a fine. You will probably get either 6 months or a year ban, you'll probably get away with 6 months, if they do that they might not give you any points, either that or they will give you 6 points and a shorter ban. You will probably also get a fine, between £200 and £500. Although you might be cautioned for giving false info, because you will have to own up to this they will probably be quite lenient since you are already getting 'done' for no insurance and tax. They might even ignore it completely.

To put things in perspective, I got 'done' twice in the same car in the space of a month, with no tax, insurance or MOT, and once for careless driving, they dropped the careless driving since there were so many other charges and I got away with 6 month ban and £200 fine, no points, so hopefully they won't be too severe on you. Hope this helps, got my fingers crossed for you.

Nothing you said can be used? You lied to a cop. You went on the record. This isn't some tv show.

you are looking at 6 points minimum and a fine of about 200-500 quid for giving false information you will have to go to court and have your license endorsed sorry this happened but if you do this sort of stuff then you deserve to be caught and face the consequences for all of the country's legal law abiding drivers

ASSUMING YOU ARE UK, NO INSURANCE, £400-600 FINE, 2-6 POINTS. NO TAX, PAY UP THE BACK TAX NOW, AND AND DUTY SOLICITOR SHOULD QUASH THAT ONE.

WHATS THIS ABOUT THE ADDRESS? WHO'S CAR IS IT? IN WHAT WAY DOES THE ADDRESS MATTER? IF ITS YOUR CAR, THEY KNOW WHERE IT IS REGISTERED.

no tax at least 6 points and up to £1000 fine, no insurance same, no harm to you but they should throw the book at you, why should i pay and you don't, maybe you will get done for waisting police time or perverting the course of justice, if your a repeating offender you could get time, hope they took your car away for crushing, ever thought of the heartache your kind cause when you have an accident and there is no compensation.

Your choice of name is sadly correct. You were a bit stupid.

I could rant on about how it's scum like you that put my insurance up...but I think the Police will say much, much worse.

In short I cannot figure out something. The police do a PNC on your registration plate - to see who & where it's registered to etc.
A quick look on the windsceen shows no tax...but that's confirmed on the PNC aswell. And unless you admitted to driving without insurance you would have just been given a 'producer' to hand in your documents in 7 days.

You really have screwed up this time - 'fess up to everything.

Also - you are only cautioned if you are being arrested. Getting a producer is not 'arrested'. But giving false details IS an arrestable offence.

You're screwed.

technotoe
1st how will they trace you. they have know real info on you.
2ND is your car quite new. if so you can say that the car reg plate has been cloned. and that he's the only driver, and the car hasn't left the path. basically your partner will have to lie his **** off.
