Can you get pulled over for a brake light being out?

In Illinois you need to display one brake light.
And not if you use hand signals. |

You can be pulled over for ANY light being out on the oustide of your car. That includes your license plate light too. |

Yes, but most departments just issue a "fix-it" ticket. Fix the problem, drive to the issuing department, prove to them it is fixed ... ticket gone, end of problem! |

In Missouri, you can be stopped, and then get a warning, a ticket, or an arrest at the discretion of the officer. |

yes because other cars will not know your stopping when you normally hit your breaks you may only get a warning ticket. break lights are easy to fix it has to do with a blown fuse normally. |

Depends where you live. Here in Wyoming it is called a "Fix it" ticket. You are given a certain amount of time to fix the problem, then drive to the issuing department and show them it is fixed. The ticket is then voided. Don't fix the problem, and you get fined. |

sure can usually they give a warning but if you get an officer thats in a bad mood they give you a ticket...

when you see his lights put your arm out the window to acknowledge him then drive to the nearest dunkin donuts (or local donut shop or in Tell City IN mcdonalds lol) and say...wow only four of you here tonight lol. |

You could, but you'd most likely get pulled over for something else and the brake light would be added in. Example: you're swerving in and out of lanes, and that draws attention to the brake light. |

Yes, in fact, they are supposed to pull you over for that to check on the reason. Like, when we were kids, someone told us that if we were abducted and put into the trunk of a car, we should try to kick the light out...to draw attention and signal the cops....light not working. So, you might have to let them open your trunk.
Also, if you are stopping, or slowing, and cause a wreck, you could be cited as bein at fault, since you didn't have proper lights. |
