Police: Do you feel as though you are making the world a better place when you arrest those caught with pot?

The same as I feel when I write someone a ticket for running a stop sign. A law was broken, no one was hurt that time. But they may have been hurt in the future on another occurrence. You can run 1,000 stop signs without an accident, but then once and you hurt someone in an accident. You can smoke pot 1,000 times without issues, but then once you do something you wouldn't normally do and someone gets hurt.

I feel bad any time I arrest someone, except the people who intentionally violate the law knowing they are going to hurt someone. Like armed robbers, muggers, burglars, and the people I like the least rapists.

Well, first of all you have to take into account what state's laws you're talking about. In California, nobody gets arrested for a half ounce of weed....in other states, people go to jail regularly for even less.

That said, I do not think I'm making the world a better place when I arrest someone for an ounce and a half of marijuana.

I do think I'm making the world a better place when I'm arresting the guy transporting five or ten pounds of weed - or more - which is not uncommon.

I can see what everyone is saying. As an officer, you have to enforce the law, no matter what your personal opinions. However, I think he is asking you as a person not as an officer. (Basically your personal opinion).

Personally, I think the whole illegal weed thing is more about politics than it is about someone harming themselves or others. In my own opinion, out of these three : alcohol, Cigarettes, and weed... I think that weed is the least problematic, but the one that is kept illegal..
( just my opinion.)

I find it a great pleasure to arrest "pot heads" as I call them. First off, they know better. Secondly, nothing good comes from smoking weed and it is illegal. My motto, you got dope, you go for a ride!

So, smoke away, just don't get caught ;)

People know it's illegal. You are taking a calculated risk by keeping and using it.

I'm doing my job. I don't feel bad at all for arresting dopers.

The law is the law. An officer cannot choose which ones to enforce. Suppose someone decides that murder is ok and kills one your loved ones. They disagree with the laws against murder and think it should be legalized.
