Police Ranks and Roles?

I've got a few questions. Firstly, what rank is a police prison warden? Secondly, who would probably be the highest ranking police officer at a county police station. Lastly, what role does a police commissioner play in the service? Thanks.

A warden is usually the highest position at a prison. They are usually the chief administrators and control nearly everything that occurs within the facility.

The highest ranking person at a county sheriff's office is probably going to be the sheriff. Below him may be undersheriffs or perhaps majors.

Police commissioners are also very high and usually appointed roles within a department. In my experience, police commissioners are more closely related with the administration of personnel and less involved with operation of the police department itself. In fact, police commissioners aren't always sworn law enforcement officers.
