Police Sharpshooter?

I'll be going into the Police Academy soon. Can anyone tell me how to become a sharpshooter? Is it just a part of SWAT? Or an oncall-when-needed thing?

Have you had any training in the military as a sniper? If not, I doubt you'll become a sharpshooter anytime soon.
But if you really put effort into it, maybe you can be. |

Before you start thinking about SWAT teams and sharpshooting, focus on getting through the academy first and learning the basics of policework. |

for the SWAT team near me, along with all major cities, you need to be an ex-military sniper. Unless you're going to be working in a small town, you have to go military. |

SWAT is the only place where a sharpshooter/marksmen is needed.
Being a civilian marksmen is MUCH different than being in the military. Civilian marksmen don't usually take long shots (compared to military) but they have a much tighter target- so not to injure any innocent parties.
My husband was a sniper in the military and then on the SERT team... the rifle is similar but the distances and targets are very different.. but if it's what you're good at and want to do, you can do it. |

To be a sharpshooter you have to be the best of the best. When your fellow academics are hitting the dime you have to be punching a hole dead through the center of the dime. It's hard, and takes lot's of practice, but you can do it. Just shoot as much as you can. That's the only way to get better. |

Go for it. It is great to see this team in action. Professional to the core. To become a sharpshooter, you need to practice and practice. Go to the shooting ranges and practice. Then present your sharp shooting skills to your Police Academy in your City/State, and you will be considered. The Snipers are a great profession in the Military. Good Luck , Always. |
