i was wondering how the police and fire service are involved in crime scene investigations and what tasks they have to perform and there roles

In most cases, the Fire Department has control of the scene as long as there is something there for them to work on. If, for example, a house is actively on fire, then the FD runs the show until the fire is out and the fire hazard is clear. If it is a medical call, the FD is in charge until either the patient is treated and released, transported, or dead.
In some limited cases, the Police Department will be in control of a 'patient', such as with in-custody situations. Often times someone can be injuried during the course of an arrest (or may complain of pre-existing injuries or illnesses after arrest) and in such cases the FD may show up to treat the patient, but the patient will remain in the custody and control of the PD. This means if they need to be transported, generally an Officer will go with them and the patient MAY be transported to a secure hospital facility.
Briefly, then, the role of the FD at a 'crime scene' is to address medical and fire emergencies, and the role of the PD is to secure the scene and address any criminal matters. There is some blurring of this in certain cases - arson, for example, as the previous poster answered - but for the most part this pattern holds true. |

The Police are often in charge of a scene, so cor-dens/boundaries that sort of thing... Also the Police will have SOCO (CSI) attending to process the scene and start the investigations! |
