I used to feel sorry for my african-american probationers when they ran into people like you.

It illustrates the height of hypocrisy when the same people who scream about working from within the system to make things better, tear down the people who try to do just that.

The true "enemy" is lawlessness and intolerance, whether it comes in the form of a thug on the streets or an over-zealoused cop. There will always be a need for police officers to protect and serve the community at large. If we as African-Americans fail to become police officers we perpetuate a state of disparity between those who enforce the law and the general public. What I mean is, the police should ideally be a part of the community they represent, but if black candidates don't apply conditions such as those you describe will continue. And from a practical perspective, as I look around my community (easily one of the most violent in this part of the country) I don't see much afrocentric pride at work; what I do see is things like a 15 year old child who (last week) gallantly tried to usher his younger cousins indoors to safety as a driveby shooting was underway. He succeeded in saving them, but he was fatally wounded with gunshots to the back. Was he the intended target? Probably not, but it matters a damn because he's still dead. No white cops did that to him, but his misguided brothers over some perceived "beef" with someone else.Genocide is equally horrendous no matter who the perpetrator is. These aren't isolated incidents...we kill and harm each other far too much, and we need to accept responsibilty for that so it can stop. And until this type of stuff is no longer a reality, there will ALWAYS be a legitimate need for honorable police officers. When you're being victimized, do you really care what color your helper is?

You know which cops are hardest on blacks? Black cops are. Why? Because they are tired of their communities being destroyed by thugs. Black cops are not betraying their race, they are trying to save it.

You are a moron. First of all, an african american crack head would never become a police officer. however, an african american male or female who has the proper education and qualifications could. in this case, why would it be a bad thing to become an officer and help prevent some of the crime that happens in their neighborhood and others? People who commit crimes (black or white) need to be apprehended so why does it matter if it is a white or black officer who does it? as far as im concerned whoever cleans up the streets is doing you a favor, black or white. period.

You are standing up for the African-American race by saying that they should not become police officers or anything that involves the "white government", but instead they should what?......ban together as criminals and only further support the stereotyping that already exist?

There is nothing wrong with African-Americans making a difference in their communities, even if that means doing it in the form of police officers. And I don't know where you are from, but where I live there are more than just African-Americans smoking crack, its a drug addiction that is color blind.....of course it doesn't seem that you know much about being color blind!
Instead of fueling the fire of racism why don't you learn to see that it is about the person not the skin tone! Bad people are bad people no matter what race they are.....don't you realize that?
What makes you better anyways? Are you not being racist yourself? Stereotyping is wrong no matter what side of the stick you are on!

How can you justify being against your race that is just trying to help make a difference? Why do you call it the enemy? Police officers come in many sizes and colors just like anything else. Why blame the government for crack, when there are african americans in those positions too? I am so tired of the racial cries of african americans, I have nothing against anyone of any color, just the person themselves for bad actions. So be it white, african american, asian, or latino, or whatever if you commit the crime...do the time...It just so happens that your very attitude is what has your race being locked more than others. Police don't abuse unless they are provoked to do so. Some may do it out of self defense, some out of fear, some out of anger yes. But it happens to all races not just yours. Each person can make up their own mind to do good or to do bad you can't go around blaming anyone else but the person...not the race. That is the problem of America, we can't get along with each other but yet when sent to war to fight for our country I don't see anyone crying about which race is better or worse because they are all the same...Americans....Sorry just had to throw that one in..

being a cop pays well. and when you have a family sometimes your morals take a back seat.

usually crack and violence are also accompanied by another key element. a lack of education. a lot of people are just nto aware of how it is all tied together. and that is deliberate. so rather than turning your attention to workers who are just trying to feed their family. look to the system. and ways we can change it so that as a community, and as a nation we all see and say that the abuse of african americans is unacceptable and will not be tolderated.

all people must be educated equally if we can even begin to call this nation fair. education bring opportunity which bring better jobs and moeny. and thus economic equality

This is real. if people dont believe me go to the "ghetto" and see how they are treated. thats what i did. spent time in south los angeles. and you will see. its not right. we must draw attention to it.
