You stole something. They can get you for that anytime they want. it doesn't matter when or where they catch you. Thats like saying i killed that guy but i left his house and made it home so you can't charge me for it. If you are smart you should be honest with them if thats the case and maybe they will let you off easy if you don't have a record already

Yes, video evidence can be very reliable. Obviously, it was good enough to find you since you are obviously guilty by your own omission. If it wasn't good enough to prosecute you on, then they would have never found you in the first place. Your best bet is if you can make restitution for your theft and that this is your first charge and you will probably not spend time in jail.

You shouldn't have shoplifted, and now you have been caught (they have video evidence). They will be able to charge you, doesn't matter if it's a day later or a year later; you still did the crime.

You sure it was the police that called you? Check the number from a pay phone if you can cuz I'm thinking how did they get your cell phone number from a video?? Maybe it's one of your friend's playing a prank on you.

What is the statute of limitations in the us its 7 years but i wouldn't go in to hiding for a shoplifting offense;)

Serves you right, because you should not have been stealing in the first place. Why dont you start living properly, instead starting a life of crime, because that is what it leads to, and you should start to think about the rest of your life, in which if you continue stealing, you look like spending your life in Prison..... then what have you achieved ?.

They can arrest you since there is evidence, a solid one at that (video). Sadly because you are 18 therefore will be judged as an adult, so penalty will be higher than junior/minor. But since it only shoplifting, i doubt something very big happen. Not like you be in jail for years or something. Just some minor charges and a warning.

Get rid of the evidence, find someone who can swear you were some place else( and someone who will not break, they will grill them). Basically your screwed, they have cameras for a reason. Next time, dont get caught.
