Police can't accept gifts..How can we get around this?

I work at a pizza place and it was recently robbed..again...The police did a 20 cop manhunt with dogs and helicopters and ended up finding them :) We are so grateful, my boss wants to send them pizza and my friends and i want to bake them cookies. How can we show our appreciation without it seeming like gifts, which we were told they can't accept?

A written thank you to the Chief of Police will be placed in the permanent records of the officers involved, and will be greatly appreciated.
A letter to the local paper would be even nicer. People are quick to scrutinize the police, but it is rare they are appreciated. The public attention would be appreciated by the department.
If you want to send some pizzas, send them to your local domestic violence center, boys and girls club, or some other charitable organization on behalf of the department. The could use a free meal much more that the police, and the publicity would be good for the department. |

The best gift the police can get is a letter to the editor in the local paper telling the public you think they did their jobs well.
And your boss may consider a personal letter to the Chief or Mayor expressing the same. |

You can donate to police funds that support fallen officer's families, help officers in need of financial care, helps pay for armor and equipment for departments, etc.
One guy around where I live gives all the police officers of the department gift certificates every Christmas. He doesn't say his name or anything so he obviously just does it to support the police and not so they'll hang around him.
You probably shouldn't make/give them food since they might think it's tainted (a guy i know worked with somebody who got poisoned from cookies brought to the department, fortunately he was okay but still. . they're careful).
Getting gift certificates lets them get what they want, and it's completely safe for them too.
I'm sure they also appreciate letters of support/thanks. |

Nonono, Law Enforcement can't accept BRIBES, not personal gifts. Giving them stuff like doughnuts and pizza and pop and stuff just for the heck of it, or rewarding them is ok. They only can't accept bribes to get out of trouble. |
