Police chase question?

There’s the “too dangerous” hype about police chases, and I must agree there’s a risk, but in many cases it’s worth it. Police chase cars for reasons and it’s not for 5 km/h over the limit. What I’m looking for is why police seem to abort chases when it’s viable and likely the suspect could be caught otherwise.

If we change the laws to favor police pursuits, it’ll be much easier to engage in pursuit to the fullest extent. It’s imperative to stop the threat and apprehend the suspect. It annoys me that some police just give up and turn around.

This had me thinking, maybe the police cruisers aren’t effective enough? Most cruisers top up at 250 km/h, but the latest Corvette can max out at 320; if I wanted to, outrunning the cops would be a breeze. Let’s do some tune up: if we can have our cruisers in the high-300s the officers could be far behind the suspect, and seconds later they’ll be right next to him.

It’s costly to replace all the cruisers, so we could start with a single unit, perhaps a branch of the Highway Patrol. We should exempt police from damages unless it’s deliberate and malicious. For added safety, we could have special lights and sirens so nobody would be ignorant of “cruisers engaging in a suspect coming at a high rate of speed”, and if bystanders do get hurt from it wouldn’t it be their fault?

Please respond to the question productively. I’ve had people make terrible comments about police and it’s not acceptable.

If cruisers actually max out at 215 km/h, I could pick one of my good cars and have them trailing at 50 km/h or more. What if it were a murderer or bank robber? Like I said, we should focus all the expenses on a single unit or branch, e.g. highway patrol.

Police chases are necessary. Do you get the peace of mind when a rapist is running amok? Cops might wreck in a chase, but we could prevent that thru training and teamwork. People do run if no one is chasing them, they try to get away and cops are obligated to chase them. We have to highlight the message: if you try to run from us, you will always fail. How long will it take to find the culprit after we get the tag numbers and do some investigating?

Police are in fact protecting a society, but some risks are inevitable. I assume we don't have smartasses standing in the way of cruisers with the lights and sirens blazing to be run over.

cruisers actually max out at like 215 kph, and not many police departments will have $100k cop cars.
And they should not chase people, cops are just as likely to crash into someone as the criminal, not to mention people do not run if no one is chasing them. Get the tag numbers and do some investigating, police are suppose to protect a society not endanger it.
