His job has nothing to do with it. If you don't need a permit, it is not his business. I will say if your neighborhood is having a lot of yard sales, the city will write a law saying you can only have 1 or 2 sales a year, if they get complaints.

Most towns require you to apply for and buy a permit to have a yardsale. If your town is one of those towns and you do not have a permit, then he or any other cop can tell you not to do any without the proper forms completed.

In most towns you need to get a permit to have a yardsale...so if you don't get a permit, then any officer can tell you to stop. So, call the town and see if a permit is required, if it is then get a permit and when the officer tells you no more yardsales, tell him that it is ok because you got a permit from the town.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A YARD SALE, YOU NEED A PERMIT FROM THE CITY, AND, YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO HAVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF YARD SALES PER YEAR. SO GET A PERMIT AND TELL HIM TO GO HOME.

He may just be annoyed at the additional noise and traffic early every weekend. I can't blame him there. You live in a residential area. If you want to run a business, you need to follow the law and do it properly.

Go to city Hall and find out what the requirements are. Once you've complied, you shouldn't have a problem.
Every municipality has different rules. Don't be afraid to get the straight dope from the ones who know.

City and county codes state weather a permit to have a yard sale is needed, also check and see if there is a limit on the amount of yard sales one can have each year.
If neither of these apply, then ask him to leave your property unless he was looking to buy an item.

In the towns that I have lived, you can have a yard/garage sale perhaps 1 -2 times a year. Spring and Fall clean up type thing. You are not allowed to have a perpetual yard sale. You can not have one every weekend. Even with a permit. By doing this, you are setting up your home as a "business" and not allowed in residential areas.

i dont know to much about the law but i do know as long as your not on his property he cant tell you what to do on yours i think he letting his badge get to his head if he continues i would seek legal advise good luck

Technically speaking I'm sure the city would require you had a permit for a yardsale, but this guy is being a douche bag. I would tell him where to go and to bring it on.

he is a cop, they are pigs and think they can do whatever, whenever they want! "the pretty much think they rule the world" im not sure you can do anything about it, you probably just have to wait it out and see if she shuts up about it. or maybe your parents should go over and talk to him
