Police officers and carrying pistols off duty?

Each agency has it own rules. If a Federal LEO has a need to carry a firearm on-board an airplane he must first notify the Air Marshal Service and the airline crew.

they cant carry it on a plane..........they can take them apart and put them in luggage in a lockbox IF they notify the carrier first...............otherwise they can take them anywhere in the US including to different states that they are not an officer in..............they also cant take them to certain courts if the courts have a policy against it..........for instance atlanta pd cant take their firearms into county courts but the fulton county deputies can............

City of Houston Texas Police Department requires its officers to be armed at all times! The officer must use his/her judgment as it pertains to drinking, since our officer are required to be ready for duty 24/7, even if on their days off, now you can always call in sick, if called to work and are intoxicated, but if stopped by the police, and this officer calls his sergeant out, and they want to jam you up, happens often, he, the sergeant can write you up for being unfit for duty, which means you have been arrested for public intoxication or DWI! The aforementioned is not good for the career. The public intoxication arrest will result in a suspension, which can be a written reprimand or termination! A DWI arrest will get you placed on administrative duty until the case is resolved, if convicted you are terminated and you forfeit your police license, which means you cant got to another department, if found not guilty, depending on your past disciplinary history, you can find yourself fired! So much more!! Federal officers are usually the only ones who can carry a weapon on a airplane, I have been deputized by the Fed's so I can carry my weapon, we often fly from city to city in pursuit of our criminals, and the risk of the weapon being stolen by a worker is too great, since the bags with weapons are easily identified!!!

As a federal police officer we can carry on airplanes. However, you have to of had the TSA flying while armed course, which most of us receive at FLETC. Agency polices may restrict flying while armed however, therefore each federal LEO should make sure they know their policies.
Must be federal and must of recieved the training.

You don't have to take apart or disassemble a firearm when carrying in your luggage on a airliner. Civilians can transport firearms too with many carriers. They do however have to be unloaded and in a lockable container.
