would you pull over and ticket someone who was in the right hand lane, makin a right turn but waited until the red light turned green, while holdin up the line behind him? whats your call..........

The laws as quoted by Sparky is as stated. FREE RIGHT HAND TURN can be made not will be made.
Also look at the lane markers on the street. The arrow usually has a straight and a turn.
Not all people want to turn at the light, some may want to go forward.
Yes, it does make me mad when one has a free right turn and then sits there and does not take it till th light turns green, but then again that is that persons discretion, not the officers. |

The law for obstructing traffic here doesn't allow for a ticket for that. The law concerning free right turns says you may do them, not that you have to do them. So basically you can't even stop someone for not turning so you couldn't ticket them. |

You can't get a ticket. I know a person who got in an accident when turning right on red and they are scared to turn right on red and always wait for a green light. It is an inconvenience but people do not HAVE to turn right on red, they just CAN |

No, it's not a law of discretion, it's a law of word.
Obstruction of traffic does not apply here, all states that allow a turn on red simply state if you can make the turn, you're authorized to make it. A red light means STOP, and you can do just that and wait for the light to turn green.
If anyone honks at you, they're the ones breaking the law. You're perfectly within your traffic rights to wait until the light is green. If you get a citation, your defense should be that you felt unsafe to make the turn. Besides, if you do it on red, and you're struck, it's your fault. |
