Police shown, on film, knocking over a man who later died (UK)?

Does this make a good antidote to all the "police, camera, action" type programmes which are set up to make the police look wonderful

What that policeman did was unforgivable - even if he did ask him to move out of the way, a whack wasn't needed -
but people, please understand that this doesn't mean that Police are all set out to be violent!
Use common sense - only a small minority of Police officers got too far - these cases are just made a big deal when you see them on the news.
This is just as bad as saying that all doctors are crap just because of one or two bad cases you hear on the news one year.

I guarantee that the first number you dial when your house has been smashed into or your life is at threat, is 999, asking for the Police.

The vast majority of them do good work and are there to help people, and I didn't fully believe this before I met my partner who is a policeman.
He does everything with no violence unless absolutely necessary (which is what most Policemen actually do) and does his job bloody well, just like all the the other Police officers he works with.
You can't disagree with that when he has managed to get rapists, thieves and murderers behind bars.

Absolute disgrace. If a protester had pushed (assaulted) a police officer who subsequently died. That protester would be locked up on a manslaughter charge. All we are hearing from the Police and politicians are platitudes and excuses.

It goes to show there is one law for us...

This is a sad day for Law & Order in the UK.

This footage is a serious indictment of the police and the tactics employed by them under instructions from the Government, it shows an unprovoked, violent and malicious attack on an innocent man walking to and from work by a thug in a policeman's uniform.

The victim must have suffered acute trauma being attacked by a police officer who is meant to protect him from violence not perpetrate violence against him. The shock is unthinkable.

This man should be brought to justice and receive a sentence commensurate with the seriousness of the crime and his betrayal of the uniform he wears-nothing less.

I got arrested one night while working as security.a group of males attacked us and one ended up getting knocked out.The police said that the had to arrest us as he went in an ambulance. We were put through the system, dna photo taken etc.Held overnight ,interviewed released after 13 hrs and bailed. Will this happen to the police officer who knocked the guy down and his colleagues, dont think so....

Very unfortunate, if the man was told to hurry up and move out of the way and he ignored them and continued to meander along i would think it not so bad, but if it was for no reason then something should happen. I would not blame the cops too much, it was just unlucky, they get so much sh!t nowadays anyway, they would have had adrenalin rushing through their system. Very sad.

I think we should all reserve judgement on the video, after all, we can't hear if the police issued instructions for the man to move out of the way, then caution him that he would be removed by force, we can't hear whether the man in question swore or shouted abuse at the police committing a public order offence prior to him being struck. The piece of video is also extremely short, or is that just the piece that the media want us to see?

Why was the man there in the first place... if he was there to sell newspapers... where were the newspapers.

And... would the man have had a heart attack anyway... my guess is yes.

I'm not defending the police or saying what happened is OK, all I'm saying is lets look at the bigger picture before coming up with a media driven verdict... again!

**Edit** Just for info, I have reserved judgement on the man who died, the above is not my opinion, all I have done is turn the media story on its head to show how the media works. Shame on the newspaper website for screening the footage anyway, if someone had handed in a knife dripping with blood instead of a video would the newspaper print a picture of it first before handing it over to investigators? NO. We are just being manipulated by the media... and the quicker we realise that the better.

Och you have obviously not read the news today and you are not interested ,you are one of those people who defend the police no matter what they do,besides that nothing will come of this. You also havent reserved judgement on the dead man

Remember PC Roberts who attended the scene of a domestic on Boxing Day 2007?
Was the violent partner of the woman who called police charged with murder when the police officer collapsed and died of a heart attack in the front garden? No!?

Please stop your rants.
