Police training Help with doing Push Ups?

I am one step away from making it to the police academy.
I have taken all the tests and evaluations and passed.

There is a physical side to it...And just to look at me you would think i was the fastest more athletic person..Im 165lbs..5"10

I can do sit ups...vertical jump...running miles...Easy.

The 28 push ups without stopping scared me tho...I have probably done 9 or 10 push ups in a row without getting tired of it.
I did read something about they would let you go on your knees and do the push ups tho...which is pretty easy...Just wondering if they let you do that or did i misread something somewhere?

And if they dont let you...Whats a good excersise to get better at push ups...other than doing the push ups....Thanks

Actually doing push ups is one of the best ways, Start and then gradually work your way up in numbers. Do them until u get sore and arms shake. Thats what worked for me. Also weight lifting gives you better upper body strength.

Actually, doing the push-ups is the best way to build up your endurance. Start by doing them in three sets of 7-10 every day no matter how much it hurts and force yourself to do so if you don't feel like it. As the sets get easier to do increase the amounts to each set.

Very soon you will find that you will be able to hammer out the 28 or more with no problems.

women are allowed do push ups on they're knees but the only way to get good at push ups is do more push ups that or bench press weight but id reccommend just doing push ups

If you are looking for the easy way out already, you need to get a different career. The criminals aren't going to give you any time outs when they decide to fight with you. If you have no upper body strength, plan on having no teeth.

Instead of doing the minimum required, you need to exceed these things. The criminals are exercising, lifting weights, and practicing how to disarm and hurt cops in prison. And we pay for it! So you better get ready.

I don't mean to be harsh, but the reality of it is that upper body strength is very necessary when trying to overcome the resistance to arrest or protecting yourself when attacked. Sure, there are people in law enforcement that aren't that strong in upper body strength, but the amount of pushups you're talking about, well, that is pretty small.
Everyone that has suggested doing more pushups has given you great advice. It has the added benefit of strengthening a lot more than just your arms.

Bench press. And work on your triceps. I am not sure why you don't want to do push-ups... as that is the way to get better at them. Do them to fatigue (meaning, that you can't physically push yourself up any more and then drop). Do three sets every other day. You will be sore, but you should notice a significant difference within two weeks. It is strange why you haven't tried this yet, if you say 10 isn't hard for you. Methinks you are creating this barrier in your mind because you are scared of getting into the academy... or perhaps of failing.
